In the realm of Elden Ring Nightreign, every single Nightlord presents a formidable foe. They stand as the pinnacle of my adventures, often pushing me to the brink before slipping just out of reach. Yet, even with each encounter being over in a flash, I’m quickly back for more. Despite their immense difficulty, some are truly colossal compared to others.
The Balanced Behemoth, Libra, stands out distinctly among other Nightlords, ready to engage in combat on your least favorable terrains. Equipped for both close-quarters and long-range battles, they can swiftly bridge the distance between them and you in a heartbeat. They are not only capable of playing defense, but can also transform into an unyielding force at a moment’s notice – this if neither of you have lost your sanity first.
Equilibrious Beast’s Strengths And Weaknesses
Unlike several of the Nightlords, Libra boasts a multi-faceted moveset rather than relying on a single combat style. He possesses two primary modes of engagement – long-range magic attacks and close-combat physical assaults. Consequently, your proximity to Libra will influence the strategies and damage types you employ in battle.
In combat at a distance, Libra primarily unleashes his fury through an ability called Madness. Interestingly, this same Madness can be his downfall, making him as vulnerable to it as you are. When affected by it, he becomes enraged and switches to physical, melee attacks – offering you a temporary respite from his magical onslaught. However, weapons imbued with Madness are rare, so it’s advisable not to solely depend on them when battling Libra. Instead, focus on enhancing your own resistance to such ailments for a more effective strategy against him.

Weaknesses
- Madness
- Holy
- Fire
- Slash
Although Madness is the only thing that can severely harm Libra, he does possess some other significant vulnerabilities. These weaknesses manifest in Holy and Fire elements, with a comparatively lesser susceptibility to Slash attacks as well. In combat situations involving Libra, it’s wiser to focus on Holy and Fire affinities, as these are more commonly available.
Similar to Madness, Libra often inflicts Fire damage with its attacks. Therefore, it could be beneficial to search for resistance to this element during the initial two days as well.
Recommended Characters
To effectively counter Libra’s formidable range attack, Ironye is an ideal choice due to his ranged damage capabilities. Having a bow at your disposal significantly enhances this, allowing you to thwart some of Libra’s strongest attacks.
Instead, consider taking a stronger companion with you, such as Guardian or Raider. By staying near Libra, you can provoke him to focus on melee attacks, which are far less powerful compared to his Madness attacks.
Wylder strikes a balanced position in this scenario. He may not be as robust as Guardian or Raider, and lacks the long-range abilities of Ironeye, but he excels in mobility and swiftly bridges the distance when Libra approaches ranged teammates.
Equilibrious Beast’s Moveset
Similar to other Nightlords, Libra exhibits two distinct phases. But unlike the others, Libra possesses a unique ability: he can switch between ranged and melee combat styles, and both of these fighting methods become enhanced during his second phase. Therefore, when engaging with Libra, you must keep track of four potential modes of attack simultaneously.
-
Phase 1
Attack Description Counter Madness Drop Libra will summon a ball of Madness then throw it above him, which then shoots out three bursts out Madness. This isn’t hard to dodge if you are at range or up close to Libra. It is meant to target those at medium range. It is otherwise easy to avoid. It will also leave behind crystals which reduce Madness when picked up. Madness Sigil Libra will cast a large sigil on the ground which does a massive explosion after a moment. This deals Madness and knocks you down no matter what. After it appear, runn out of it or time your dodge for a moment after it appears. If you dodge as soon as it appears, you will most likely finish your dodge before the explosion goes off and still get caught in it. Madness Rotating cannon Libra will summon a sigil in front of themself that fires out a volley or Madness bullets while slowly rotating. Stay behind the volley or move to the direction opposite it is turning to avoid its barrage. Staff combo When close to Libra, he will attack with his staff. This will have two swings, followed by a final slam. This attack is only performed when near to Libra. Keep your distance, or block if it you are playing as Guardian. Baiting this combo can stop him casting Madness spells. Charging Slam Rarely, Libra will try to close in on ranged enemies. He will stand still for a moment before leaping at a character and slamming with their staff. Always keep on the move, and dodge just before Libra reaches you. Be aware that even at a distance, he can still close the gap. Meditation Libra will float in float and cast a shield around themself and multiple sigil. Upon completion, Libra gets a defense boosts and will cast more powerful Madness spells. Either break the sigils around Libra, or use an Ultimate Art to break the shield. This will cancel Libra’s Meditation, and cause him to briefly shift to a new moveset. Madness Slam And Burst After canceling his Meditation or afflicting him with Madness, Libra will charge around the arena using physical attacks imbue with Madness. Each slam will be accompanied by a Madness burst, and the final hit will have a massive Madness explosion. Take this time to inflict as much damage on Libra as you can since he will not react to you other than to use more physical attacks. Enraged Charge Like the regular Charging Slam, Libra will charge at ranged characters while Enraged for heavy damage and Madness. This one is harder to avoid, so try to dodge at the last second and run away if you’re a more fragile target. -
Phase 2
Attack Description Counter Teleport After casting a Madness Sigil, Libra may teleport to it instead of making it explode. Keep on the move, and avoid any Madness Sigils you see on the floor. Enhanced Madness Drop rather than just a single Madness Drop, Libra will now cast three of them at once, and they can all fire multiple times before disappearing. Like before, keep close or quite far away. The damage is deals is small, and mainly builds up Madness. However, this also means many more crystals that remove Madness will remain. Enhanced Madness Sigil As before, Libra will summon Madness Sigils that explode. Except many more of them this time. Same as before, dodge a moment after they appear to avoid being caught in the explosion, and avoid accidentally being caught in another. Madness Miasma After a large series of attacks, Libra will slam his staff into the ground multiple times, summoning a Madness Miasma across the whole arena. The only way to cancel this attack is to break Libra’s stance, so save your Ultimate Arts for this. Otherwise, you will be afflicted with Madness unless you can pick up enough Madness Crystals.
The key to handling Libra is holding firm to your chosen approach. If you’re a character with ranged abilities, then maintain your distance, resist the urge to get closer even if he tries to bridge the gap between you. Rushing towards him and moving haphazardly could potentially lead you into the Madness Drops and Sigils. Instead, stick to your plan of action.
Tips For Beating Equilibrious Beast

As soon as you step into the ring with Libra, there’s an opportunity for negotiation prior to the actual battle. These terms can vary each time you fight, making them unique in every encounter. However, you always have the option to decline a deal if it doesn’t align with your strategic plans. There are no repercussions for doing so.
In addition, don’t forget to grab a bow. When Libra goes into Meditation, they conjure a number of sigils. If you succeed in destroying these, they will create even more the following time they meditate. It’s important to note that there will always be at least one floating around. Given that magic can’t be directed manually, a ranged weapon like a bow is the most effective alternative.
After defeating Libra, you will receive additional Traces of Night, and an exclusive artifact that ensures a method for inducing Madness.
