Of course, each new Monster Hunter game needs to include some fan favorites, and Monster Hunter Wilds has one of the all-time classics. Gypceros is a monster that was first introduced in the original game and has been an iconic wyvern ever since. If you’re feeling a bit rusty on how to take down this beast after so many years, here are some helpful tips for hunting Gypceros.

Gypceros boasts a tough rubbery hide that provides it with a resistance to Thunder-type attacks and shock traps. Due to its impact-resistant exterior, it is also resistant to blunt damage, meaning the effectiveness of the Hammer and Hunting Horn may be somewhat reduced.

Gypceros exhibits a slight vulnerability towards attacks of the Fire type and a minor one against Ice type attacks. However, its most vulnerable spot is when it’s subjected to Severing damage. So, make sure your blades are sharpened and be prepared for some intense slicing and dicing.

The most vulnerable area on a Gypceros is the crest atop its head, which you should aim for to impede its flash power. This spot might be tricky to reach with certain weapons, but long-range severing options such as Lance, Gunlance, and Great Sword work exceptionally well. Additionally, Bowguns and Bows are adept at accurately hitting this small weak point.

Regardless of your chosen tool, applying additional force against Gypceros is possible if you attack it using a weapon that specializes in fire damage.

Gypceros – Fight Breakdown And Moves

Gypceros can be considered a versatile beast, much like a Swiss Army knife. Similar to many small Bird Wyverns, it predominantly employs physical attacks with its sharp beak and powerful claws. Its preferred method of combat involves charging across the battlefield, pecking and swiping persistently, often knocking opponents off balance if they happen to be in its path.

Besides that initial trick, Gypceros has another surprise up its sleeve – it can stretch its tail like a whip to take hunters off guard. So, don’t assume safety by just moving behind this creature, and remember, its tail is incredibly resilient, making it one of the most menacing aspects of its body.

As a gamer, I’ve noticed that when battling Gypceros, its head crest is quite the trickster. It can unleash blinding flashes from it, momentarily stunning me. Afterward, it usually goes for a body slam or a powerful tail whack. Shaking my left stick rapidly helps me recover faster, but it’s wiser to dodge the flash completely. Sadly, just looking away doesn’t make the flash disappear. To avoid getting stunned, I have to either step out of its reach or find cover behind something.

Having a higher level of Resilience against Stunning could enable you to regain composure more swiftly, potentially allowing you to dodge just in time as Gypceros comes crashing down on you with its powerful tail.

Additionally, Gypceros has a peculiar habit of contaminating the battlefield with pools of toxic substance. It may pause to spit out three blobs of poison in your direction, but it’s just as likely to dash back and forth, spreading poison everywhere. The poison can drip from ceiling caves and flow down slopes, so it’s crucial to know the locations of these hazardous spots to prevent unnecessary harm.

If the conflict persists for a prolonged period in the same location, it might become essential to begin draining the toxic puddles. Fortunately, watermoss—a common resource—can be used to neutralize these pools by firing it at them from your slinger, and it’s quite plentiful in Gypceros’ territory.

A more effective approach in this battle would be to aim most of your attacks at the top of the creature’s head. If you can shatter its crest, you’ll weaken one of its powerful abilities. Once that’s done, it should become simpler to gradually decrease Gypceros’ health until it ultimately succumbs.
