How Taylor Swift Helped Shape ‘Agatha All Along,’ According to Creator Jac Schaeffer

As a longtime fan of the MCU, I must say that Jac Schaeffer‘s latest creation, Agatha All Along, has truly enchanted me. The show’s deep dive into the world of magic and the occult, coupled with the introduction of intriguing characters like Lady Death, Wiccan, and Jennifer Kale, has made it a must-watch for any Marvel enthusiast.

The recently released series, titled “Agatha All Along,” is set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Approximately three years after the events of “WandaVision,” this story unfolds, focusing on Agatha Harkness as she escapes from a magical confinement and embarks on a quest along the Witches’ Path to reclaim her lost powers.

The show dives into a lesser-known part of the MCU—the world of magic and the occult. It also brings in some key characters for the MCU’s future, like Lady Death, Wiccan, and Jennifer Kale.

As a fellow gaming enthusiast diving into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I’ve got to give props to Jac Schaeffer – she’s the brain behind some of my favorite titles like WandaVision and Captain Marvel (even though she didn’t get all the credit). Her dedication to detail is second-to-none, which really shines in her work and makes me appreciate it even more.

Lately, Schaeffer had an interview with Decider and revealed that Taylor Swift played a significant role in the development of the show. During the conversation, Schaeffer talked about the tunes that fueled her creativity, mentioning Taylor Swift as one of them, whom she refers to as a “master storyteller.” Although numerous artists sparked Schaeffer’s writing, she admitted that Swift’s impact was particularly profound.

For me, writing this — like during this sort of process, I love Haim. I think that those three sisters are very witchy. Kathryn [Hahn] listens to a lot of Bjork — I love Bjork as well, sort of later stage. I listen to a lot of Taylor Swift because she’s a storyteller and I find that very inspiring when I’m trying to write. As I listen to her songs, it makes me want to write. It’s sort of like a trigger for writing.

Agatha’s love story with Rio Vidal (portrayed by Aubrey Plaza) was greatly influenced by the band BoyGenius. This band is a well-liked trio, particularly in the queer community, consisting of Julian Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus. BoyGenius is renowned for their unique alternative pop music style, which complemented the intense, whimsical dynamic between the characters Agatha and Rio.

During my work on the show, Boygenius stood out quite prominently, let me tell you. It was a blend of the enchanting Agatha-Rio tale, yet it had a hint of Metallica’s intensity as well.

One engaging aspect of the TV series was the dynamic between Rio and Agatha. In a separate conversation, Schaeffer delved deep into this topic. The showrunner disclosed that they spent considerable time brainstorming their initial encounter, and at one stage, contemplated having Rio as Nicholas’ father.
