How Fred Armisen’s Uncle Fester Returns in WEDNESDAY Season 2

One standout aspect of the first season that premiered on Wednesday was the spot-on portrayal of Uncle Fester from the Addams Family by Fred Armisen. Netflix confirmed his return for season two, but he wasn’t present in the first three episodes. His character made his appearance in episode four, titled “If These Woes Could Talk.” In this installment, Wednesday calls upon her uncle to Nevermore Academy, enlisting his aid in probing her case. She is on a mission to discover more about someone named Lois, whom she suspects has connections to Willow Hill psychiatric hospital. Lois appears to be crucial in unraveling the mystery surrounding her friend Enid’s demise. Wednesday believes that the answers lie within Willow Hill and knows exactly who can assist her – none other than Uncle Fester.

On time, Uncle Fester hurries to aid his cherished niece, whom he affectionately refers to. It seems she’s his only niece, but that’s all we know. Wednesday enlists him to investigate Willow Hill, a place where he claims to have been before. He mentioned this was due to Morticia, her mother, requesting his presence to verify the well-being of her sister Ophelia years ago. Unfortunately, he couldn’t locate her, but he chose to stay and indulge in the electric therapy for a couple of weeks. It appears that Addams men have a peculiar fondness for enduring such mental challenges.

Subsequently, Fester checks into the Apple Hollow Inn, a nearby lodging establishment, using ill-gotten funds. He creates a commotion at the inn, damages his room, and scribbles lyrics from Foreigner songs on the bath tub walls. His disruptive behavior results in him being transferred to Willow Hill Asylum following an incident involving a cactus.

In retrospect, he reminisces about his youth spent in various mental health facilities, which he looks back upon fondly. Following a round of electroconvulsive therapy, he forms a romantic bond with Louise, the dining hall attendant. He manages to persuade a fellow patient’s feathered companion to disclose the number 51971, after giving it a minor electric shock.

Delving into the underbelly of Willow Hill, I found myself ensnared in a web of intrigue as Fester, our protagonist, was apprehended for prying around in forbidden territories. Unmasking his true identity, he was swiftly confined within a straitjacket. Thankfully, the intrepid duo of Wednesday and Thing swooped in to save the day. As they fled, they stumbled upon a sealed maintenance room, which Fester unlocked using the cryptic code 5971. Inside, they uncovered a hidden compartment that led to a covert tunnel. The walls of this clandestine passageway bore the chilling inscription “Long-term Outcast Integration Study.” In essence, “Lois” is not an individual; instead, it’s a top-secret program where outcasts are subjected to experimental treatments, many of whom have vanished without a trace over the years.

Fester and Wednesday uncover that the manager of LOIS is Dr. Judi, and it’s all thanks to Fester that there’s a riot amongst the prisoners. Wednesday rescues a secret patient, who could very well be her long-lost Aunt Ophelia. As Fester breaks free, he comes across Louise and tells her “Of all the women I’ve ever been with, you were my preferred one.” They then share an emotional kiss in the rain, and Fester Addams departs for some distant location. We can only speculate that it won’t be long before his bald head reappears to help his niece out of a difficult situation once more. And perhaps, even pave the way for his own spin-off series.
