How Elisabeth Moss Got Taylor Swift’s ‘OK’ to Use Look What You Made Me Do in The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6

Elisabeth Moss recently disclosed that a long-held dream of hers was fulfilled when Taylor Swift granted permission for one of her songs to be included on The Handmaid’s Tale. As an Emmy-winning actress and executive producer, she shared that the latest version of “Look What You Made Me Do” would be featured in Season 6, Episode 9 of the Hulu series, which aired just last month.

Currently, Moss commented, “To be honest, it was her agreeing that was the response.” The track resonates as June Osborne, portrayed by Moss, takes charge during a tense scene where she guides the Handmaids in rebellion against the Commanders.

Moss revealed that she communicated with Swift by sending a heartfelt letter expressing how much Swift’s music impacted her personally and influenced the show’s cast. “It was incredibly gratifying when I learned she took the time to read my letter about the song’s significance for the episode, as well as the role her music plays in our group,” Moss explained. “Her positive response was more than enough validation for me.

Why Elisabeth Moss chose ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ for the episode

Following the broadcast of the episode, Moss expressed to Billboard that incorporating a Taylor Swift song into The Handmaid’s Tale had been a long-held dream of hers. “I’ve longed to use a Taylor song on our show for quite some time now, and we finally managed to find the ideal place where one of her tracks would fit perfectly,” she stated in a release. “I am overjoyed that we waited, as there simply could not be a more fitting song for a more suitable moment.

Apart from expressing her own feelings, Moss disclosed a strong bond with Taylor Swift’s music. In fact, she considers herself a devoted fan, or as they call them, Swifties. She even went so far as to suggest that her co-star Yvonne Strahovski and the rest of their cast shared this fandom too. Moss further expressed gratitude for having Taylor Swift’s music incorporated in the last installments of their series.

Last year, Moss proudly displayed her Swiftie fandom by attending Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Toronto alongside her Handmaid’s Tale co-star Bradley Whitford and his wife Amy Landecker. At the event, they even snapped a picture with actress Mariska Hargitay.
