As a lifestyle expert reflecting on Ian Somerhalder‘s journey, I find his transformation from a heartthrob to a passionate environmentalist and family man truly inspiring. His ability to maintain humility amidst success is commendable.
At age 45, Ian Somerhalder has enjoyed a multifaceted acting career in the entertainment industry. Starting with his breakout performance as Boone Carlyle in Lost, he later captivated fans as Damon Salvatore on The Vampire Diaries, earning him a reputation as a charming heartthrob and a common household name during his successful television stint. In October 2004, he was even recognized by People Magazine, making their list of the 50 Sexiest Men Ever featured in Teen People.
Two decades after speaking with the same magazine, Somerhalder looked back on his former “heartthrob” label, acknowledging that his life priorities have now moved in a different direction.
Reflecting on how being highlighted in magazines and included in “sexy” lists significantly impacted his career earlier, the actor, during an interview about his collaboration with Nutro, a pet snack company, mentioned that currently, he’s concentrating more on passion endeavors such as his environmental efforts and raising his children with wife Nikki Reed, who is 36 years old.
Reaching a particular stage, he stated, ‘Now I prefer to concentrate on my family and the future developments in farming, food, energy, and major issues. I no longer feel the urge to pursue accolades or recognition that boosts my self-esteem.’
Looking back at his past, Somerhalder confessed to People that if he could talk to his younger self, there would be a few adjustments he’d suggest or wisdom he’d share – mostly related to business matters rather than personal growth.
To sum it up, I wouldn’t alter much other than perhaps a few minor issues related to ‘Lost.’ I might have grumbled over meal services or something similar, and there were two instances where I arrived late – once extremely late because I overslept due to exhaustion from the previous night.
In essence, Somerhalder told People that it seems like just yesterday to him when he was deeply involved with those shows. Furthermore, he expressed heartfelt appreciation for both series. He added that possibly, he wouldn’t have found the place where he feels most genuine – a rustic lifestyle wearing cowboy boots and surrounded by cows and galloping horses – without these shows.
