How Did Val Kilmer Gain ‘Difficult to Work’ With Reputation in Industry? Find Out Amid Top Gun Star’s Untimely Death

65-year-old Val Kilmer, known for iconic roles in films like Top Gun, Batman Forever, and Tombstone, among others, which brought him fame on the silver screen, sadly passed away following a prolonged fight against pneumonia. However, his professional relationships with fellow actors were not always smooth sailing.

In his autobiography titled “I’m Your Huckleberry,” Kilmer recounted his difficulty in initially connecting with Tom Cruise. He mentioned an unusual way he attempted to break the ice by gifting Cruise an expensive bottle of champagne, but instead of handing it over directly, he hid it in a large open space and provided clues for Cruise to follow in a scavenger hunt-like manner to locate it.

He further added, “I hid behind a bleacher and watched him lug the giant crate to his motorcycle.”

As a die-hard admirer, I attempted to bridge the gap between me and my idol, Tom Cruise, by employing a little trick. Alas, it backfired, and instead of gratitude, he didn’t even acknowledge my kind gesture.

People familiar with the late actor recognized his shy, reserved personality, which may have hindered his ability to comfortably interact with his co-stars and fellow celebrities in Hollywood. Reports from the media suggest that if you were searching for actors labeled as “difficult to work with,” Val Kilmer’s name would likely be at the top of the list.

These assertions were additionally supported by distinguished directors such as Russell Crowe, Marlon Brando, and Edward Norton.

Earlier, while discussing his experience on the set of Top Gun, Kilmer disclosed that he managed to land the role of Tom Kazansky through a rather sullen audition. He stated, “I delivered the lines without much enthusiasm and surprisingly, I was offered the part.” The actor further explained, “I felt more let down than elated after hearing I got it.

Regardless of how people viewed him, Val Kilmer was still able to secure the recognition and respect he truly earned.
