As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for Hollywood stories, I find James Marsden’s audition faux pas for Saturday Night Live to be both amusing and relatable. We’ve all had moments where we’ve taken a chance, only to realize later that it was not our finest hour. In Marsden’s case, the decision to cluck like chickens might have seemed hilarious at the time, but in retrospect, it was indeed a “bad choice.
On a less-than-stellar attempt, James Marsden auditioned for Saturday Night Live but fell flat during the process! In an amusing account shared on Live with Kelly and Mark on December 18, the actor known for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, opened up about his comedic mishap during a trial run for the acclaimed sketch comedy series.
The SNL crew conducted a country-wide hunt, and one of his companions proposed that he try out for the show. Looking back, he mentioned that the creative team asked them to develop an engaging character. “It felt like they were saying, ‘Go ahead and do whatever quirky thing you fancy,'” he added.
He explained that at the time, they seemed to have made an odd decision, mimicking chicken sounds and moving in circles around each other, but looking back, Marsden realized it was a misstep. Later, he confessed this to the hosts. Despite not becoming a cast member, he expressed his hope to one day host Saturday Night Live instead.
Marsden shared that he’s long harbored a wish to feature in the comedy sketch series, following in the footsteps of his 30 Rock co-star and SNL veteran Tina Fey. He reminisced about expressing this ambition to her, saying, “I told her, ‘You know, I’ve always wanted to be on SNL,’ to which she replied, ‘Oh, well, you’ll host it someday.’
He emphasized that he didn’t wanna go as himself but be one of the “guys” on the show. “She was like, ‘Well, you probably can if you want to.’ But yeah, I just love doing impressions and different characters,” he added.
Saturday Night Live (SNL) has gained significant recognition as one of NBC’s most acclaimed series, with many celebrities making guest appearances. Ariana Grande was among these stars, gracing the SNL stage during her promotional tour for the movie Wicked. Some of her skits on the show even became viral sensations. In collaboration with the other SNL cast members, she put together a humorous take on the song Espresso.
The program, fresh off its 50-episode milestone, has previously welcomed stars like Ryan Gosling, Paul Mescal, and numerous others to take on hosting duties. This coming Saturday, a past cast member, Martin Short, will step up as host, with Hozier scheduled to perform musically.
