How Did Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon Feel About Taylor Swift During Their First Meet? Musician Reveals

As a music enthusiast with a knack for delving into the lives and careers of artists, I find it fascinating to see the camaraderie between Justin Vernon and Taylor Swift. Their shared creative journey, as evidenced by their collaborations on ‘folklore’ and ‘evermore’, seems to have sparked a mutual admiration that transcends the boundaries of music.

Justin Vernon from Bon Iver expresses his belief that he and Taylor Swift would have had a good connection if they had crossed paths when they were younger. In an interview with The New Yorker on October 16, the 43-year-old artist shared his experiences of working with Swift on her albums created during the COVID-19 era.

When he encountered Taylor Swift, Vernon expressed that he didn’t feel starstruck. Rather, he regarded her as “someone I would have been great friends with in high school,” he shared with the media outlet. He reminisced about Taylor, thinking to himself, “You’re genuine and you’re present.

Vernon expressed about the Eras Tour performer: “It’s hard to comprehend all that she’s accomplished – the momentum, the growth… It’s truly remarkable and yet, she was someone who I found relatable.

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’m thrilled to share that I had the privilege of featuring on Taylor Swift’s track “Exile” from her 2020 masterpiece, “folklore.” Not only that, but I was also part of the title song for its companion album, “evermore.” It’s a dream come true to collaborate with such a musical genius!

In addition, Swift teamed up with the band Big Red Machine led by Vernon, providing her voice for two tracks – Birch and Renegade – found on their album titled “How Long Do You Think It’s Gonna Last”.

In a separate interview with The New Yorker, Vernon mentioned his upcoming EP titled SABLE, due for release on October 18. He hinted that this new work might serve as a tribute to his 2007 debut album, For Emma, Forever Ago.

Vernon described the project as “fresh like a new layer of skin,” although it may not be intended as such. He shared that his perspective on time is that it moves in a continuous, cyclical fashion, leading him to feel more like everything is starting anew rather than revisiting the past.

On Taylor Swift’s professional side, she’s almost wrapping up her groundbreaking Eras Tour, which started in March 2023. Today, she starts the final stretch of this tour in Miami, where she plans to honor Liam Payne, the ex-member of One Direction who sadly passed away on October 16 following a fall from a third-floor balcony at his Buenos Aires hotel.

Swift had a strong connection with the late 31-year-old singer, partially because of her short-lived romance with Swift’s bandmate, Harry Styles.

The Eras Tour ends on December 8 in Vancouver.
