Months before publicly accusing Justin Baldoni of sexual harassment on the set of “It Ends With Us,” Blake Lively‘s company, Vanzan, reportedly filed a private lawsuit anonymously in September 2024. The aim was to obtain text messages from Baldoni’s previous PR team as evidence without causing a stir, as reported by Daily Mail.
The subpoena was sent to Stephanie Jones, Justin Baldoni’s ex-publicist, and her firm, Jonesworks. It asked for all communications involving Baldoni, Lively, and her husband, Ryan Reynolds. Jones reportedly handed over texts between her former staffer Jennifer Abel and crisis manager Melissa Nathan.
Lively’s legal team is utilizing these messages to back up claims that Baldoni, Abel, and Nathan orchestrated a negative campaign against her. One of the messages supposedly said, “We can discredit anyone.” Lively’s lawyers believe this evidence strengthens their argument that attempts were made to tarnish her image during the promotion of the film in August 2024.
Despite not explicitly mentioning Blake Lively in the initial lawsuit, it was subsequently dropped on December 19, a few days prior to her filing an official complaint with the California Civil Rights Department.
As a devoted follower, I’d rephrase that statement like this: According to Baldoni’s legal representative, Bryan Freedman, the action taken in this case had no connection whatsoever with Ms. Lively and Mr. Reynolds’ company, Vanzan. He expressed this opinion to Page Six, stating that the lawsuit, which appeared to be a mere sham, was intended solely to gain subpoena power without any supervision or examination.
Freedman emphasized that the circumstances were far from ordinary, pointing out that individuals entrusted with upholding justice must always act truthfully and avoid filing baseless lawsuits. He argued that this action was performed dishonestly and categorically labeled it as an egregious misuse of legal procedures.
In reply, attorneys Esra Hudson and Mike Gottlieb for Lively asserted that their actions were legal and an integral part of a thorough and conscientious investigation. They claimed the lawsuit served to uncover a scheme aimed at tarnishing Lively’s reputation. As they explained, the Lively parties relied on credible information and utilized common legal methods like Doe lawsuits and civil subpoenas.
As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but share the latest twist in the drama: It was alleged that secretive messages from the Wayfarer crew outlined a sinister plot against none other than Blake Lively! In response, on December 21, 2024, she publicly voiced her concerns, followed swiftly by a formal lawsuit on the 31st. Baldoni vehemently denied all accusations and retaliated with a staggering USD 400 million countersuit in January. Currently, Lively and Reynolds are attempting to have this counterclaim dismissed.
