House of The Dragon Season 2: Who Are The New Dragonriders Of The Blacks?

As an ardent fan of House of the Dragon, I find myself captivated by the intricate tapestry of characters and their dynamic journeys in this mesmerizing world. Season 2 has certainly not failed to keep me on the edge of my seat with its gripping narrative and unexpected twists.

In the second season of House of the Dragon, Rhaenyra Targaryen encounters numerous obstacles. Towards the end of the penultimate episode, she gathers an army. Initially, her husband, Daemon, does not back her during the early stages of the war and departs for Harrenhal following the Blood and Cheese scheme, spending most of the season there.

In the world of House of the Dragon, Rhaenyra’s chosen heir, Jacaerys Velaryon, suggests a novel approach to boost the combat prowess of their dragons: infusing Targaryen blood into them. However, he prohibits commoners from taking part in the ritual known as the Sowing of the Seeds. In contrast, Rhaenyra extends an invitation to the Dragonseed lineage residing in King’s Landing, allowing them the opportunity to ride dragons at Dragonmont. To ensure safety and prepare them for the impending event, she organizes rowboats and gives advance notice before the taming of Vermithor commences. In this intriguing tale, it is revealed that two dragons mysteriously find their riders among the Houses they were bonded with.

Here’s what viewers should know about the new riders.

Addam Of Hull – Seasmoke

After consuming Ser Steffon Darklyn, Seasmoke sails away from Dragonstone in search of Addam of Hull on Driftmark’s shores. Upon finding Addam, Rhaenyra discovers that he has become a new Dragonrider. Addam, eager to demonstrate his abilities, vows to serve Queen Rhaenyra during the impending conflict. Rhaenyra then brings Addam back to Dragonstone and starts teaching him High Valyrian to ready him for future battles.

Hugh the Smith – Vermithor

In the second season of House of the Dragon, a blacksmith named Hugh, skilled in constructing dragon-slaying Scorpions, makes a request to Aegon II for overdue payments. Graciously, Aegon II grants his petition. Sporting silver hair and bearing a resemblance to the Targaryens, Hugh takes care of his ill daughter in King’s Landing, where supplies like food and necessities are dwindling. Kat advises them to seek refuge with her brother at Tumbleton, but Hugh initially declines, waiting for conditions to deteriorate further.

As a loyal follower, I bear the heavy burden of Aemond’s strictures on the Smallfolk, which unfortunately led to the loss of my beloved daughter due to food insecurity. In anguish, I disclosed to my wife the hidden truth – that I am not merely a commoner, but a Targaryen, the nephew of Viserys and Daemon.

Ulf – Silverwing

In a turn of events, Ulf, who asserted his lineage traced back to Dragonseed ancestry, seized an opportunity when Rhaenyra allowed the sowing of the seeds. He posited himself as the half-brother of Viserys and Daemon, and the uncle to both Rhaenyra and Aegon II. However, Ulf grew disgruntled with how the Greens managed the issue of food scarcity.

Ulf found himself amidst the Dragonseeds crowd and luckily avoided Vermithor’s fury. He unintentionally wandered into Silverwing’s den, where the dragon swooped him up. Ulf’s spirited and lively demeanor served him well as he provoked the Greens while soaring above King’s Landing. Aemond pursued him on Vhagar, his own dragon, but had to withdraw once he spotted other dragons across the bay.

Sheepstealer – Lady Rhaena Targaryen

In the series House of the Dragon, the character Sheepstealer does not make an appearance, and Nettles is absent from the narrative. Instead, Lady Rhaena emerges as the new Dragonrider in the finale. In her quest, she explores the Vale, searching for what she believes to be a wild dragon that has arrived seeking food after the war. This dragon is not named Sheepstealer but is believed to be roaming the area.

Based on its name alone, it’s clear that this wild dragon has a taste for sheep, as remnants of bones around Eyrie attest. In time, Lady Rhaena will be known as Sheepstealer and embrace her role as a Dragonrider, becoming the fourth in line following Addam, Hugh, and Ulf.
