HOUSE OF THE DRAGON Season 2 Sees Paddy Considine Cameo as King Viserys

As a long-time Game of Thrones and now House of the Dragon fan, I’ve grown accustomed to the unexpected twists and turns this world brings. But the latest developments in House of the Dragon have left me both intrigued and disturbed.

In the ongoing storyline of “House of the Dragon,” Daemon’s inner turmoil deepens. Meanwhile, actors from season one make reappearances to add depth to the narrative. Most recently, Milly Alcock returned in a few episodes, portraying young Rhaenyra. Her presence served to remind Daemon of his past regrets and questionable decisions that often resulted in catastrophe. Similarly, in episode six of season two, Paddy Considine resurfaced as Daemon’s late brother, King Viserys. Though Viserys passed away last season due to a grievous illness, his demise set off the current conflict between the Blacks and Greens due to Alicent’s misinterpretation of his dying wishes.

In this episode, Daemon’s subconscious brings Viserys back to haunt him at Harrenhal during his slumber. Viserys appears menacingly on the Iron Throne as Daemon approaches it. Viserys accuses Daemon of mockingly referring to his deceased son as the “heir for a day.” He reproaches Daemon for abandoning him when their family disintegrated. He reminds Daemon that everything he had given him was rejected. Just as in reality, Viserys instructs Daemon to leave, implying that he will not be the next heir. Daemon attempts to depart but is unable to open the door until Simon Strong opens it. Suddenly jolted back to consciousness, Daemon assaults Simon, suspecting him of conspiring with someone to bring Daemon down.

In the later part of the story, Viserys reappears, grief-stricken over the death of his wife from the opening scene of “House of the Dragon.” He collapses into Daemon’s embrace, weeping. Daemon consoles him, regretting that he wasn’t present earlier but offering solace now. Suddenly, Strong enters and delivers the news that Lord Grover has passed away. Viserys is left alone once more, and as Strong exits, Daemon sheds tears for the loss of yet another loved one.

Daemon must depart from Harrenhal’s spooky corridors and gather his thoughts. Perhaps these dreams will help him discover traces of moral compass, guiding him towards wiser decisions.
