Fans of House of the Dragon have reason to celebrate! HBO has announced the show will return for a fourth season. While we’re still waiting for season three (coming in summer 2026), knowing the story of the Targaryens will continue into 2028 is exciting news. The wait between seasons will be a bit long – two years, to be exact – but it’s a small price to pay for more of the epic fantasy we love.
Francesca Orsi, head of HBO Drama Series and Films, announced that both House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms have been renewed for the next three years. She said HBO is excited to continue building on the world of Game of Thrones for its dedicated fans. Orsi highlighted that the two shows demonstrate the depth and creativity of George R.R. Martin’s universe, and she believes audiences will love the story of Dunk and Egg coming in January. She also promised that House of the Dragon will return this summer with even more spectacular battles.

It’s no surprise that HBO has renewed House of the Dragon for a fourth season – it’s currently the most popular Game of Thrones series. Along with the renewal news, HBO shared some first-look images from season three, which you can view above.
A release date for House of the Dragon season three hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s expected to premiere in the summer of 2026.
