As an ardent fan of the enchanting world of cinema, I am absolutely thrilled about Ariana DeBose‘s upcoming role in “House of Spoils.” Having won an Academy Award for her breathtaking performance in West Side Story, DeBose is no stranger to taking on challenging roles that push boundaries. The thought of her transitioning from the glamorous world of acting to the high-stakes kitchen drama, while battling haunting spirits, is nothing short of exhilarating!
As a die-hard fan, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming kitchen drama where the radiant Ariana DeBose steps into the culinary world! This thrilling tale, reminiscent of “The Bear” yet deliciously haunting, follows DeBose’s character as she ventures from her previous position to take the helm as head chef at her very own restaurant nestled within an eerie upstate rural estate. I can hardly wait to see this Academy Award-winning actress dazzle us with her culinary skills and captivating presence!
Despite the estate having an unsettling atmosphere that disturbs the head chef and causes her to hallucinate strange occurrences such as seeing worms on her dishes, DeBose’s character appears to be experiencing a mental breakdown. From taking anxiety medication to witnessing eerie visions, it seems her sanity is slipping away. As the trailer concludes, she transforms into a feral figure, devouring food from other people’s plates in a savage manner.
Barbie Ferreira, known for her role in Euphoria, and Arian Moayed of Succession fame both appear in this movie. At one point, Ferreira’s character comments that she’s never come across greens like those plucked from the garden of the supposedly haunted mansion. There’s also a suggestion of a chilling past associated with the estate’s previous owner, often referred to as the “witch lady tale.
In the trailer, someone remarks, “I wouldn’t consume anything grown in her garden,” suggesting a chilling history of the location. Will the chef manage to persevere against the horrors lurking within the estate or be overcome by them? The synopsis reveals, “A chef embarks on opening her first restaurant, where she grapples with kitchen chaos, suspicious investors, and self-doubt. However, the tension escalates as a result of the vengeful spirit of the estate’s former owner, who aims to undermine her efforts.
DeBose gained significant recognition and an Oscar for her part in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, and she is well-known for her exceptional hosting abilities following her impressive performance at the Tony Awards. Prior to this, she appeared in the family fantasy drama Wish, alongside Chris Pine and Evan Peters. Her resume also includes roles in Hamilton from 2020, Argyle, the contentious film The Poolman starring Pine, and numerous other productions.
As an ardent admirer, I can’t contain my excitement for “House of Spoils,” masterfully crafted by the brilliant minds behind “Blow The Man Down” – Bridget Savage Cole and Danielle Krudy. This innovative production ventures into a fascinating fusion of food and horror genres that promises to be nothing short of captivating.
