As a total movie buff, I’ve been watching what everyone’s streaming, and it’s no surprise the holidays and comedies are ruling right now! People are really revisiting those feel-good classics. This week, it’s a mix of everything – heartwarming family films and those older, slightly edgier comedies that just never get old. Here’s a rundown of what’s currently trending on the platform.
‘Straight Outta Compton’ (2015)

In the mid-1980s, five young men from Compton rose to prominence, transforming music and popular culture. As they navigated the challenges of the music industry, they faced pressure from those in power and law enforcement. Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, and Ice Cube used their music to express their anger and frustration, sparking a cultural shift. However, their success was also marked by internal disagreements that threatened to break the group apart at the height of their career.
‘A Christmas Story’ (1983)

Young Ralphie Parker spends his days trying to avoid bullies and wishing for one thing for Christmas: a Red Ryder BB gun. He tries really hard to convince his parents and teacher that it’s the perfect gift. The story follows his family’s funny and chaotic holiday season, complete with a memorable leg lamp and a terrible Christmas dinner. It’s a heartwarming and funny look back at what it was like to be a kid during the holidays in the 1940s, capturing all the excitement and worries of the season.
‘Freakier Friday’ (2025)

Years after magically switching bodies, Tess and Anna Coleman are back, this time dealing with a similar strange event affecting a new generation of their family. They need to figure out what’s causing this to happen before it’s too late, and the situation pushes them to truly understand the challenges faced by their younger relatives.
‘The Santa Clause 2’ (2002)

For eight years, Scott Calvin has been happily working as Santa Claus at the North Pole. But he recently discovered a surprising rule in his Santa contract: he needs to find a wife, or he’ll lose the job! While he goes home to try and get his son off the naughty list, he leaves a toy Santa in charge. Unfortunately, the temporary Santa takes the holiday rules way too seriously and starts causing chaos.
‘Superbad’ (2007)

Best friends Seth and Evan are about to graduate high school and go their separate ways for college. Determined to make a lasting impression on the girls they like, they decide to throw a party – but need to get alcohol first. Their plan quickly falls apart thanks to some unusual police officers and a string of unfortunate events. Throughout the chaotic night, their friendship is put to the test as they grapple with the fears and uncertainties of becoming adults.
‘The Polar Express’ (2004)

On Christmas Eve, a boy who struggles with belief takes an amazing train trip to the North Pole. During the journey, he learns that the magic of life stays alive as long as you believe. A friendly conductor leads him and other children on exciting adventures as they head to meet Santa Claus. The film uses incredible animation to make the story’s fantastical world feel real and vibrant.
‘National Lampoon”s Christmas Vacation’ (1989)

I’ve always loved watching Clark Griswold try so hard to give his family the best Christmas ever, even though everything always goes wrong! He just wants a classic, peaceful holiday, but it’s constantly derailed – first by relatives showing up unexpectedly, and then by a complete nightmare with the Christmas lights. Things get really stressful when he doesn’t get the holiday bonus he’s counting on. Honestly, it all spirals into total chaos, ending with a SWAT team and his boss being…well, let’s just say things get taken hostage. It’s a disaster, but a hilarious one!
‘The Santa Clause’ (1994)

Scott Calvin, a divorced dad, accidentally makes Santa Claus fall off his roof on Christmas Eve. When he puts on Santa’s suit, he unknowingly takes on the job of being Santa. Over the next year, he magically changes – gaining weight and growing a white beard. Now, Scott has to prove to his family, who are very doubtful, that he really is the new Santa Claus.
‘Home Alone 2: Lost in New York’ (1992)

When Kevin McCallister gets separated from his dad at the airport, he accidentally flies to New York City. He cleverly uses his father’s credit card to check into the fancy Plaza Hotel and enjoy a comfortable stay. Unfortunately, he runs into the Wet Bandits, a pair of criminals who just broke out of prison. Kevin cleverly prepares an empty house with traps to prevent them from robbing a nearby toy store.
‘Home Alone’ (1990)

When eight-year-old Kevin McCallister’s family rushes off on a holiday trip to Paris, he’s mistakenly left behind. At first, he enjoys having the house to himself, but his fun is interrupted when two burglars try to break in. Kevin cleverly sets up a series of traps to protect his home, and through the ordeal, he learns just how much he misses his family, especially as his mother works tirelessly to get back to him.
