Charli XCX recently shared some honest thoughts about the challenges and joys of being a mother. While on the SmartLess podcast with Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes, she discussed her life and what’s next for her. The conversation became a bit awkward when Bateman offered advice on choosing the right partner to start a family with, unaware that Charli is already married.
Pop star Charli XCX, whose full name is Charlotte Aitchison, shared that she doesn’t want children at this time. She explained that while her feelings might change, she’s currently happy with her life.
She agreed with Sean Hayes’ sentiment that she’d rather not have kids and regret it, than have kids and regret that. Charli jokingly said she likes the idea of having a child, and that choosing a name seems like the most fun part of motherhood.
However, she pointed out that if that’s the only aspect she enjoys, it’s probably a sign she’s not ready to be a mom. When Jason Bateman suggested she might change her mind when she finds the right partner, Charli quickly replied that she is already married.
The singer married George Daniel, the drummer from the band The 1975, back in July. After a joke about the marriage, someone playfully suggested she might have children with a future husband, and she responded with good humor. Charli understood where the comment was coming from and wasn’t bothered by it.
Charli XCX has often spoken about the societal pressures women face regarding motherhood. She’s previously discussed the feelings that arise when friends become mothers and how that shifts their outlook on life.
She’s been honest about questioning whether not having children makes her feel less complete as a woman, but she’s determined to challenge the expectation that she must conform to traditional roles. Currently, Charli XCX is expanding her career beyond music and becoming a recognized movie star.
Her new film, The Moment, a mockumentary she also produced for A24, was released in theaters on February 6th. The movie playfully explores the pressures of fame through a fictionalized version of herself, and features a star-studded cast including Alexander Skarsgård, Kylie Jenner, and Rachel Sennott.
She’s been actively involved in music, recently releasing the complete soundtrack for Emerald Fennell’s new version of Wuthering Heights on February 13th. Plus, she has several acting projects coming up that her fans can look forward to.
Charli recently co-wrote and starred in a new movie called Erupcja, a comedy about a woman stuck in Poland after a volcano erupts. She seems to be dedicating all her time and energy to her acting and filmmaking projects right now.
