Hollywood Legend Denzel Washington Says He No Longer Watches Films

In a GQ video chat with director Spike Lee and actor A$AP Rocky, Denzel Washington shared that he has stopped watching films these days.

In a simple and natural way, The two-time Oscar winner hinted that the extensive number of films he’s worked on throughout his lengthy career might have influenced his recent decision. Denzel Washington first started acting in “Carbon Copy” back in 1981 and now boasts over 40 film credits to his name.

Washington made it clear that he doesn’t enjoy watching movies, stating repeatedly, ‘I don’t watch movies,’ and expressing his disinterest in going to cinemas or even watching them at home.

When Lee asked how many films Washington had acted in, the actor estimated, “Too many. I think 50!”

The fifth time Washington and Lee have worked together, as marked by “Highest 2 Lowest”, was preceded by films like “Mo’ Better Blues” (1990), “Malcolm X” (1992), “He Got Game” (1998), and “Inside Man” (2006). Washington earned an Oscar nomination for his performance in “Malcolm X”, a role that Lee believes should have won him the award.

However, Washington has made it clear that awards have never driven his career choices.

Washington stated on the Jake’s Takes podcast that he doesn’t work for awards like the Oscars, and he doesn’t pay much attention to such things. He’s been in this field for a while, and there have been instances where he won when he shouldn’t have, and times when he didn’t win but perhaps should have. He believes that man gives out the award, but it is God who grants the true recognition.

As a passionate cinephile, I’d say it like this: “To be honest, the Oscars don’t exactly light up my world. When someone inquires about their location, I simply joke that they’re stacked together. I’m not boasting here, just sharing my genuine sentiments. On my final day on earth, those statuettes won’t bring me any comfort whatsoever.
