Hollywood Insider Says ‘Tron: Ares Flop’ Was Inevitable and No One Asked for It: “Even Ryan Gosling Can’t Save It”

The new movie *Tron: Ares*, a sequel to *Tron: Legacy*, hasn’t been a big hit with critics or at the box office.

Joachim Rønning directed the movie, which stars Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, Hasan Minhaj, Arturo Castro, and Gillian Anderson. Jeff Bridges reprises his role as Kevin Flynn from previous installments.

The movie has received mixed reviews from critics. Rotten Tomatoes reports that 55% of 198 reviews were positive, and described it as visually stunning with a great soundtrack, but criticized its story for feeling too formulaic and lacking emotional depth.

Metacritic assigned the movie a score of 48 out of 100, based on reviews from 44 critics, indicating generally mixed reactions. Viewers surveyed by CinemaScore gave it a B+, which is the same grade as the original *Tron* movies.

The movie didn’t perform as well as expected during its opening weekend. It earned $4.8 million from early showings and previews, and $14.3 million on its first day in theaters domestically. Initial predictions were around $35 million, but the film ultimately brought in $33.5 million in the U.S. and Canada. Worldwide, it’s made about $60 million, which is less than the $44 million earned by the previous film in the series during its debut weekend.
