James Earl Jones, who passed away in September at 93, was admired for his extraordinary talent and character. Hall began his tribute with a remarkable comment: “In all my years living in Hollywood, I’ve never heard anyone say that James Earl Jones was a jerk. That’s quite unusual in a place where friends and foes often share the same faces.” Over the course of his career, Jones earned immense respect and admiration.

In the recollection of Hall, the production of the follow-up movie to their hit film, named “Coming 2 America,” unfolded with Jones having to shoot his part in New York City due to health concerns, while the remainder of the team was based in Atlanta.

In August, John Amos, who passed away at the age of 84, held a significant role in Hall’s life. Hall affectionately referred to Amos as a beacon of sunlight among people. During the filming of Coming 2 America, Hall eagerly anticipated sharing scenes with Amos, wanting to witness his infectious energy. In his words, “He was an exceptional individual, possessing a magnetic charm that effortlessly drew others close without any attempt at all.

Hall admired Amos’ intelligence and honesty, traits not often encountered. He remembered Amos’ memorable portrayal of James Evans in the 1970s TV show Good Times, which offered a behind-the-scenes look at the struggles faced by a working-class African American man. Hall commented that James Evans gave a personal insight into the life of an African American man striving for success.

During the production of Coming 2 America, it became apparent that Amos’ health was deteriorating, but Hall cherished the tranquil instances they shared during filming and at premieres. He expressed that the peaceful strolls they took together and the times he assisted him to the set were memories he would carry with him forever.
