As a devoted fan who has followed this Hollywood power couple’s rollercoaster ride for years, I find myself utterly bewildered yet intrigued by the latest turn of events between Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. It feels like we’re watching a real-life episode of “Trial & Error” unfold right before our eyes.
Angelina Jolie’s legal team claims that Brad Pitt attempted to get her to sign a $8.5 million Non-Disclosure Agreement regarding her accusations of abuse against him, following their 2016 disagreement on the private plane. This information was reported based on court documents filed by Jolie in the Los Angeles Superior County Court on July 25th. Her lawyers argue that this motion supports the need for Pitt to disclose his personal communications related to the incident.
Brad Pitt’s lawyers have insisted that the conversations in question are not connected to the ongoing dispute over the French vineyard between Pitt and his former partner. Consequently, they argue that Pitt should no longer be required to share any private information. In a separate court document, Pitt’s legal team described Jolie’s request for access to Pitt’s old communications as broad and intrusive.
In 2022, the actor filed a lawsuit against Jolie, claiming she breached an unspecified earlier agreement when she sold her share of Château Miraval, a winery they jointly owned, without obtaining his prior consent.
In the recent court document, Jolie’s legal team stated that Jolie did not intend to harm Pitt when she sold her stake in Miraval in 2021. Instead, they argued that it was Pitt who refused to purchase her share unless she agreed to a new NDA, worth $8.5 million, which he could use to silence her about the alleged abuse claims against him. This NDA was specifically designed for this purpose.
“Pitt justifies his actions using a supposed privacy protection related to domestic violence, but this argument is no longer valid in today’s legal system. Furthermore, by filing a lawsuit against Jolie, Pitt forfeited any claim to privacy protections.”
In a court filing made public on July 15, Jolie’s legal team requested that Pitt’s motion be dismissed. They contended that Jolie sought access to confidential information about therapy that Pitt voluntarily pursued following their 2016 family plane journey, which was said to have precipitated their divorce. However, Pitt’s lawyers asserted that he had previously provided ample documentation regarding the events of the flight.
In a document submitted in mid-July, lawyers representing Pitt asserted that Jolie was attempting to reopen their divorce case by requesting unnecessary information. However, Jolie’s legal team denied these accusations. On July 25, as reported by People, they stated: “Jolie has no intention of litigating these matters and, for years, refrained from discussing them publicly. Instead of acknowledging her discretion, Pitt aimed to legally require and enforce it.”
According to the magazine’s report, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who got married from 2014 to 2016, are still in the process of finalizing their divorce, which is now almost eight years since they separated. Meanwhile, their daughter Shiloh, who recently turned 18, is making legal attempts to remove Brad’s name from her moniker, following the same unofficial steps taken by their other siblings in public events. However, it seems that Brad is not happy about his daughter’s decision, as suggested by media coverage.
