Hilaria Baldwin Claps Back at Fans Who Slam Daughter Carmen’s “Inappropriate” Outfit

Hilaria Baldwin is speaking out after receiving criticism online about what her daughter was wearing. On January 19th, the mother of seven used Instagram to respond to negative comments about her 12-year-old daughter, Carmen. The discussion started when Hilaria shared a video of Carmen recording a voiceover with her younger sisters.

The video showed a young teenager wearing a plain outfit – a white tank top, a beige skirt, and black tights. Although the video was meant to be a lighthearted family recording, some people watching were focused solely on what the child was wearing. One commenter specifically criticized the parents’ clothing choice for their child.

A critic questioned why Hilaria allowed her 12-year-old to dress a certain way, saying, “How on earth do you let a 12 y/o dress like this… EVERYTHING!” Hilaria used the comment as an opportunity to discuss larger issues about society and how girls are viewed. She made a video, almost five minutes long, to share her thoughts.

Hilaria Baldwin began her presentation by jokingly connecting a comment to the number Pi, societal power structures, and general sadness. She explained that she’d been studying both scientific and feminist perspectives on why people react negatively to certain things. She then used the idea of a “pie” – representing limited resources – to illustrate how women are often taught to see each other as rivals.

You know, Hilaria was making a really interesting point. She was talking about how so many of us are raised to think there’s only so much to go around – like a limited number of seats at the table. This leads to this competitive, almost aggressive mindset where you feel you have to push others aside to get what you need. But she was adamant that isn’t true at all! She then went on to share her thoughts on what she calls the different stages a woman goes through in life, and how that impacts everything.

She divided women into three groups: young girls, women in their prime, and older women. She considered childhood and old age to be a “safe zone” because society doesn’t perceive these groups as challenging or threatening. As she explained, “When someone is a child or a young girl, they aren’t seen as intimidating or competitive.”

She pointed out that women in their prime years often face unwanted attention. She described this as a time when they receive a lot of advances, which can be intimidating and make them feel insecure. She believes older women are generally left alone because society wrongly assumes they are no longer interested in or pursued for romantic relationships.

Hilaria believes that publicly shaming children isn’t helpful when they’re going through difficult changes. She prefers to teach her children about safety in private, rather than seeking attention online. As she put it, “Protecting them shouldn’t involve Instagram comments or criticism.”

Honestly, I was really struck by what Hilaria said about this whole thing with Carmen’s outfit. She pointed out that Carmen’s always dressed that way, and then she directly challenged the critics, asking, “What’s suddenly bothering you about it?” It really hit home when Hilaria added that she thinks women are often the worst offenders when it comes to tearing each other down with comments like these, and I totally agree.

As a lifelong moviegoer, I was really moved by this woman’s speech. She passionately argued that women need to support each other instead of competing, reminding us there’s plenty of room for everyone to thrive. She beautifully put it by saying we should all be on the same team, and generous enough to share what’s worked for us – our ‘recipe’ for success, if you will. Ultimately, it was a message about bringing each other up, not tearing each other down; a call for acceptance and collaboration, not criticism.

The Baldwin family is used to being in the spotlight. Hilaria and her husband, actor Alec Baldwin, have a large family with seven children: Carmen, Rafael, Leonardo, Romeo, Eduardo, Maria Lucia, and Ilaria.

Alec Baldwin and his wife have been married since 2012 and often share glimpses of their busy family life online. Baldwin is a well-known actor with a career spanning many years, and he’s particularly famous for playing Jack Donaghy on the NBC comedy 30 Rock, a role for which he won an Emmy.

Known for frequently hosting Saturday Night Live and appearing in popular films like Beetlejuice and The Hunt for Red October, the actor recently faced legal challenges following the accidental shooting on the set of Rust. Fortunately, in July 2024, the involuntary manslaughter case against him was dropped, marking a significant win.

Hilaria is a yoga teacher and writer who focuses on health and wellness. She also hosts podcasts like Witches Anonymous, where she talks about topics important to women and their relationships. She and her family mainly live in New York City, but also spend time in the Hamptons.

We’re curious to hear your thoughts on Hilaria’s recent comparison to a pie and whether you believe the criticism about her outfit was justified. Please share your opinion in the comments below.
