As a huge action movie fan, I’m getting really excited about Chad Stahelski‘s take on Highlander! Word is, things are really starting to come together. I’ve been hearing from people in the industry that they’re announcing some new cast members and we’re even getting a first glimpse of what the story will be about. It’s shaping up to be something special, and I can’t wait to see more!
Henry Cavill will play Connor MacLeod, an immortal fighter living in today’s world. Russell Crowe will portray his teacher, Ramirez. Karen Gillan joins the cast as Heather, and professional wrestler Drew McIntyre will play MacLeod’s brother, Angus. There are reports that Dave Bautista is being considered for the role of the villain, Kurgan.
I’ve been following this project for a while now – it’s been in the works since at least 2021, and apparently has a huge budget – we’re talking over $100 million! It originally started with Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment, but then in April, Amazon MGM Studios and Scott Stuber’s United Artists took over. Thankfully, Chad Stahelski is still directing, and the script is by Mike Finch. I’m really excited to see how it turns out!
Industry insider Daniel Richtman has shared a synopsis for the film: “Centuries after his first death on a Scottish battlefield, immortal warrior Connor MacLeod (Henry Cavill) lives quietly in the modern world, haunted by loss and the endless cycle of violence among his kind. When the ruthless immortal Kurgan (Dave Bautista) resurfaces, backed by a secret organization bent on unlocking the secret of eternal life, Connor is forced back into the Game – an ancient battle where ‘there can be only one.’”
With guidance from his teacher, Ramírez (Russell Crowe), and the help of archaeologist Kate Bennett (Marisa Abela), Connor needs to face his history and find his motivation again. As immortal beings fight throughout time and around the world, the struggle for the enigmatic ‘Prize’ turns into a fight to save what makes us human.
Details about the plot of Chad Stahelski’s remake of ‘HIGHLANDER’ have reportedly surfaced:
Connor MacLeod (Henry Cavill), an immortal warrior, has died once before, centuries ago on a Scottish battlefield. Now, he’s living a peaceful life in the present day, but is still troubled by past losses and the never-ending cycle of violence…

This summary indicates the movie will combine present-day scenes with glimpses into past battles. It will maintain the fundamental idea of Highlander – immortals battling throughout history – while introducing fresh faces and the mystery of a hidden organization. Viewers can anticipate large-scale action sequences, intense drama, and, of course, the iconic line about there being only one. Expect a thrilling ride! It sounds like a great mix of old and new.
As a film buff, I’m really excited about this reboot! Having Chad Stahelski, with his incredible action choreography experience, and Henry Cavill, who just *commands* the screen, involved feels like a perfect combination. I think they could genuinely revitalize the Highlander franchise, but importantly, stay true to what made the original so special. The idea of blending historical settings with modern action sequences? That could attract both those of us who’ve loved Highlander for years, and a whole new audience too.
