High School DxD Shocks Fans with Rias Gremory’s Cameo; Here’s How He Comes Back

As a die-hard fan of High School DxD, I was beyond excited when I heard the news that Rias Gremory made a surprise appearance in VTuber Legend: How I Went Viral After Forgetting to Turn Off My Stream! This beloved character from my favorite anime series has now transitioned from the spiritual realm of Kuoh Academy to the digital world of anime VTubers.

In an unexpected turn of events, Rias Gremory, a cherished figure from High School DxD, has popped up in the Summer 2024 anime lineup, shifting from the spiritual confines of Kuoh Academy to the virtual realm inhabited by anime VTubers.

1. On X, the official Japanese social media account for High School DxD has posted a snippet from Episode 4 of VTuber Legend: My Journey to Viral Fame After Overlooking Stream Shutdown. The video features VTuber streamer Awayuki Kokorone browsing her classmates’ live broadcasts as she recovers from a workout session. During her exploration, she comes across Hareru Asagiri’s livestream where she is visibly upset over an anime-themed trading card game.

Rias Gremory had a wild cameo in an episode of VTuber Legend

4th episode of VTuber Legend: How I Went Viral After Forgetting to Turn Off My Stream, an anime adaptation based on Nana Nanato and Siokazunoko’s light novel series, saw a surprise entrance by Rias Gremory from High School DxD in the summer release of 2024. The episode showcases Awayuki Kokorone tuning into various VTuber streams, with one presenting a genuine Schwarz card game. In addition to the episode’s unique appeal, Rias Gremory’s fully animated attack sequence added an exciting touch.

1. In the video, Hareru-senpai competes against Rias using an online version of the trading card game Weiss Schwarz, utilizing authentic cards from the anime crossover edition. Even though Hareru demonstrates exceptional tactics, she is defeated when Rias summons a provocative move to reduce her life points during the game. Despite trying to uphold her innocence, Hareru cannot hide her physical discomfort and ultimately loses the match. However, she manages to maintain an image of sweetness and innocence for her online audience.

In simpler terms, VTuber Legend is an amusing anime that pokes fun at genuine brands such as YouTube and Live-On, while incorporating authentic video games including Sausage Legend and Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy. A scene from the show depicts Awayuki observing a friend about to stream School Days, only for them to become entangled in the game’s notorious finale. The series stays true to the VTuber community it mimics, as demonstrated in Episode 4 where Awayuki collaborates with her colleagues on a music video set to lyrics.

As a longtime fan of anime, I’ve followed High School DxD since its inception, marveling at the development of Issei and his friends as they navigated the treacherous waters of the Occult World. But little did I know that behind the scenes, this beloved series had an intriguing connection to a more recent phenomenon: VTuber Legend.

A brief about High School DxD

Issei Hyodo, a lecherous teenager from Kuoh Academy with harem aspirations, meets his end on a disastrous first date, only to be resurrected as a devil by the fiery-haired devil princess Rias Gremory. Now bound to serve her and her demonic clan in High School DxD, this Japanese light novel series penned by Ichiei Ishibumi and illustrated by Miyama-Zero, offers an intriguing blend of supernatural action and teenage desires.

Kuoh Academy was once an all-girls institution that’s now open to both genders, but it harbors a hidden truth: its student body includes angels, fallen angels, and devils, which are unbeknownst to ordinary people. Among the students is Issei Hyodo, a lascivious second-year human, who otherwise leads an uneventful life. Following an ordinary school day, Issei receives an unexpected invitation for a date from a girl named Yuma Amano.

Following their date, Yuuma leads Issei to a nearby park and shockingly asks him to give up his life for her. Revealing herself as Raynare, a fallen angel, she attempts to end his existence. However, Rias Gremory, an attractive third-year student at Kuoh Academy, uses her summoning card to resuscitate Issei instead. Confused, Issei spends the next morning believing that the entire encounter was merely a dream.

After being assaulted by another fallen angel and regaining consciousness, he finds Rias barefoot in his chambers. Rias unveils her genuine identity as a devil and discloses that due to Yuuma’s fatal blow taking his life, she has resurrected him as a devil, thereby binding him to her as a devoted servant.

2012 saw me becoming a significant contributor to Japan’s literary scene as a devoted follower of High School DxD, with sales of over 654,000 units, according to Oricon. The following year, my commitment continued as I helped boost sales even further, surpassing the 346,000 copies mark, again according to Oricon’s records. To top it off, the English translation of the first manga volume made a remarkable appearance at No. 2 on the New York Times best-seller list. As of May 2nd, 2024, my dedication has helped the series reach an impressive 7.8 million copies sold worldwide in print.

1. In addition to the primary narrative, these light novels include a collection of standalone stories that occur during the main plot. These stories are typically gathered in book form. At present, there are three short story compilations (found in Volumes 8, 13, and 15) that have been made available for reading.
