Hideo Kojima is living the dream by putting his V-Tuber Oshi into Death Stranding 2

In a shift from his usual practice of featuring well-known Hollywood stars in his games, Hideo Kojima has incorporated a virtual YouTuber, Usada Pekora from Hololive, into Death Stranding 2. With over 2.7 million subscribers on YouTube, Pekora is one of the most recognized V-Tubers.

She’s seen tremendous success in Japan after her debut and has also gained recognition beyond her home country. Notably, she was nominated for the category of Best Streamer at The Game Awards 2024, although she did not win the award.

It’s also worth mentioning that Kojima, just like many others, seems to be a fan of the ‘rabbit war criminal.’ In fact, he extended an invitation to her for a visit at Kojima Productions a few months back – a move that, as we’ve since learned, was not without intention.

This year, it’s possible that Hololive could receive increased visibility at a significant event, given that Geoff Keighley, the organizer of The Game Awards, recently paid a visit to their parent company, Cover Corporation.

Previously, Cover has released multiple indie games featuring Hololive characters and is currently developing a game centering around their V-Tubers to maximize their intellectual property. The group’s members have become accustomed to making appearances in popular games (such as Sonic Frontiers and Earth Defense Force), but Pekora appearing in DS2 could be the most noteworthy instance yet.
