HGTV has canceled the show Rehab Addict after host Nicole Curtis used a racial slur while filming. The series, which features Curtis renovating old houses, was scheduled to premiere on February 11th, but a video of the incident appeared online that day, as reported by Radar Online.

In the video, Curtis used a racial slur with a harsh pronunciation. She quickly recognized her mistake and asked for the footage to be removed, but it was already released publicly.
HGTV announced it has removed a series from all of its platforms due to language that was considered hurtful and didn’t reflect the network’s values. In a statement, HGTV explained that it’s committed to creating a respectful and inclusive environment both in its programming and at work.
Curtis apologized to TMZ, stating that the offensive word is not something she uses or ever has. She also expressed gratitude for her 15 years in the industry, but emphasized that her priority right now is her relationships and community – the people who know her best – rather than her career.
Curtis shared a screenshot of a text exchange with TMZ on Instagram, explaining she couldn’t discuss details publicly right now because her family needed her attention. She said she’d be open and honest about the situation later, but had just turned her phone on after being at school when TMZ initially contacted her.

The show Rehab Addict first aired in 2010 and quickly gained a loyal following thanks to Curtis’ commitment to restoring historic homes. After a long break, season 9 premiered in June 2025. Curtis explained the show’s absence in an Instagram post, sharing that she faced a personal challenge and had to choose between letting it overwhelm her or moving forward.
After talking with HGTV, Curtis re-edited the rest of the season’s episodes. Both Curtis and HGTV had previously announced the show would be back with new episodes on February 11th.
