As a long-time DC fan with over three decades of comics under my belt, I must say that the rumors about casting an older Hal Jordan for the upcoming Lanterns series have me genuinely excited!
If you’ve been out of the loop with comic book news, the DC Universe is on the hunt for their current incarnation of Hal Jordan, particularly for the ‘Green Lanterns’ series, and it seems that they’re aiming for an older actor this time around. Contrary to expectations, the top three candidates are all over fifty years old.
Lead contender for the role is Josh Brolin, who seems perfectly suited to play Hal Jordan. Contenders also include Ewan McGregor and Matthew McConaughey. Although this may be unexpected by fans, there is indeed a strong argument for why casting an older Hal Jordan could prove beneficial for the DC Universe.
In this analysis, we’ll address the whispers circulating and provide reasoning for our belief that an aging Hal Jordan fits well within the context of the DC Universe and its future, along with expressing our viewpoint on Josh Brolin as an ideal candidate for the part.
Hal Jordan stands out as one of DC Comics’ most crucial figures, undoubtedly the most renowned and significant Green Lantern. He boasts a prestigious comic book history that spans many decades and has touched the hearts of countless readers. As such, he has been central to numerous DC Comics narratives, making him a cherished character among fans. Given his storied past, there’s a strong desire to portray this icon correctly in future adaptations, particularly after Ryan Reynolds’ portrayal fell short of expectations.
Initially, it appeared as if the DCU might opt for a younger Hal Jordan (aged between 30-40). However, it seems they’re choosing an older version instead. Upon reflection, this choice does indeed fit the character profile.
In the show “Lanterns”, you’ll encounter Hal Jordan alongside the Lantern Corps, not just a single Green Lantern. Given this setup, concentrating the series solely on Hal Jordan as a young Green Lantern wouldn’t be logical because it would limit the potential to delve into other Lantern characters, which appears to be one of the main objectives.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that Hal Jordan’s most compelling comic book tales unfolded during his later years, as a seasoned Green Lantern. Thus, introducing such a character provides an opportunity for numerous exciting stories from these comics to be brought to life, either through the series or as a future film adaptation.
If you initially felt that an older Hal Jordan wasn’t ideal, we trust we’ve managed to alter that perspective. To us, portraying an elder version of the character is perfectly reasonable and logical.
