Here’s Where You Can Watch 2025’s Nerdy Oscar Nominees

2025’s Academy Awards are rapidly approaching, and while Hollywood might be toning things down a bit, it’s important to acknowledge that this year’s nominees have some stiff competition following the outstanding films of 2024. Yet, there are still numerous movies vying for the industry’s top honor that are well worth watching, many of which fall squarely within our pop culture sweet spot. If you want to catch these nominated films before the Oscars air on March 2, here are some streaming platforms where you can find this year’s Academy Award contenders.

Wicked – Buy or Rent on Digital Platforms (Or See It In Theaters)

If you haven’t managed to catch “Wicked” yet despite your eagerness, you’re part of a select few. This blockbuster movie, which was a sensation at box offices, became an online success when it hit video on demand platforms. Now, it’s garnering attention with 10 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and acting nominations for its famous witches. You can discover why it’s so highly regarded by purchasing or renting it from your preferred digital platform. Alternatively, if you prefer to watch Elphaba and Glinda on the big screen, “Wicked” is still playing in cinemas as well.

Dune: Part Two – Stream on Max, Netflix

Overcoming fear is crucial, especially when you’re eager to watch “Dune: Part Two,” whether on Max or Netflix. This highly acclaimed film, nominated five times (though unfortunately overlooked in some categories), can be found on both streaming platforms, courtesy of director Denis Villeneuve.

A Complete Unknown – Watch in Theaters

Discussing Paul Atreides, Timothée Chalamet’s other significant movie in 2024 is vying for numerous gold awards. The film “A Complete Unknown” has nominations across eight categories, such as Best Picture, Director, Lead Actor, Supporting Actor, and Supporting Actress. However, unlike enjoying Bob Dylan’s music at home, his biopic requires you to hit the road and head to theaters before the Oscars if you want to catch it.

The Substance – Stream on Mubi

Looking for an unsettling experience right in your own living room? Ready to imagine yourself needing a full week’s worth of showers after watching something? Mubi has got you covered! Register for a complimentary seven-day trial through Prime Video, and you can watch “The Substance” completely free. This body horror film is nominated in five categories, including Best Picture and a Leading Actress nomination for Demi Moore.

Inside Out 2 – Stream on Disney+

The sequel to “Inside Out” raked in a massive amount of revenue for Disney at the cinema, but now it’s available to stream on Disney+. You can catch this Academy Award-nominated Best Animated Feature Film there, where you’ll find Joy encountering Anxiety.

The Wild Robot – Stream on Peacock

It’s likely that Disney faces its toughest challenge for the Best Animated Feature award from DreamWorks’ “The Wild Robot”, a film that is stunning in every aspect. To understand why we were captivated by this heartwarming story about love, family, and community, you can watch it on Peacock, where it’s currently streaming.

Nosferatu – Watch In Theaters (On Digital Now, on Disc February 18)

Robert Eggers’ captivating (and undeniably romanticized) modern take on the classic vampire film is currently showing in cinemas. However, for those who can’t wait, the four-time Academy Award nominee will be available to purchase and rent via video on demand platforms from February 18. This is also when Nosferatu will hit shelves for the daring who choose to welcome him into their homes. Don’t forget to tune in to our interview with Robert Eggers on Laser Focus!

Alien: Romulus – Stream on Hulu

In outer space, nobody can overhear your screams during a movie watch party, but your neighbors certainly will if you’re streaming “Alien: Romulus” at home on Hulu. Fede Alvarez, the director, skillfully guided the franchise back to its origins with his contribution, which was even nominated for Best Visual Effects Achievement.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes – Stream on Hulu

Every year, I find myself drawn to the Best Achievement in Visual Effects category like a magnet. It’s not just about the fearsome Xenomorphs or the horror genre films, but it’s also where the Academy honors the sophistication of advanced primates on screen. This year, “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” has made its way into this prestigious category and is available for viewing on Hulu as well.

Gladiator II – Stream on Paramount+ and Roku

Despite Denzel Washington’s captivating performance, devouring the scenery in “Gladiator II,” he surprisingly missed out on a Supporting Actor nomination. However, Ridley Scott’s lavish follow-up managed to secure a place in the Best Achievement in Costume Design category. It’s not hard to understand why once you catch the film on Paramount+ or Roku.

The Apprentice – Buy or Rent on Digital Platforms (Or See It In Theaters)

In the previous year, it was Robert Downey Jr., playing Oppenheimer in the Avengers franchise, who won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. This current year, another Marvel Cinematic Universe star has been recognized with a significant nomination. Bucky Barnes, also known as The Winter Soldier, has landed a Lead Actor nomination, thanks to Sebastian Stan’s performance as a real estate magnate from New York City in the movie The Apprentice (not the reality TV show, though there are some links between the two). Jeremy Strong of Succession fame has also been nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his work in this film.
