It appears that The Princess Diaries 3 is coming together quicker than anticipated, as confirmed by a recent report from The NY Post. It’s been revealed that the production team has been exploring potential filming locations, and it seems Europe could be their preferred choice for some enchanting shooting spots. Moreover, aligning with the movie’s grandeur, the sets are expected to be quite substantial, with significant scenes already planned out.
According to a report from The Post, someone close to the making of The Princess Diaries shared that the creative team recently visited the Czech Republic to look for places to shoot. Interestingly, they weren’t looking at standard locations, but instead, they were checking out fortresses which will be part of the movie, a process they’ve been calling ‘castles shopping’.
The Princess Diaries Film Series
In 2001, the movie titled “The Princess Diaries” introduced Anne Hathaway as Mia Thermopolis, a character who unexpectedly inherits the throne. Joining her was Julie Andrews, portraying Clarisse Renaldi, Mia’s grandmother and the current reigning queen. Notable actors like Mandy Moore, Heather Matarazzo, Sandra Oh, Héctor Elizondo, among others, were also part of this beloved production.
In 2004, a follow-up titled “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement” was released, featuring the original actors returning to their respective roles.
Likewise, it was confirmed in 2022 by The Hollywood Reporter that The Princess Diaries 3, currently named so, is in the works. Aadrita Mukerji is being considered for the writing position. This third installment will continue the original storyline, rather than being a remake, which has been eagerly anticipated by fans who have been waiting for updates for more than two decades.
To this point, it remains uncertain if Anne Hathaway will reprise her character as the Princess of Genovia. Nevertheless, her past enthusiasm suggests a possibility. Given her timeless beauty, it might not be too much of a leap to imagine her taking on a more substantial role. Additionally, Debra Martin Chase’s planned return to the series could potentially serve as the confirmation we’ve been anticipating.
