Whether you prefer true crime, dramas, or documentaries, you’ll find plenty to watch on streaming services and cable channels. Expect to see new seasons of popular shows and fascinating explorations of history and mysteries, making for a diverse and engaging mid-January TV schedule.
‘People Magazine Investigates’ (2016)
The popular series ‘People Magazine Investigates’ is back for a ninth season on January 12th, airing on Investigation Discovery. Each episode examines well-known crimes, using the reporting and insights of People magazine’s journalists. Viewers can expect detailed interviews with those directly impacted by the cases – including survivors, family, and the investigators themselves. This season will focus on both unsolved cold cases and mysteries that have already been brought to a close, all of which gained widespread public interest.
‘The Curious Case Of…’ (2023)

Season two of ‘The Curious Case Of…’ begins January 12th on Investigation Discovery. The series explores puzzling and often heartbreaking stories that are hard to understand. Each episode uses forensic science and interviews to unravel complicated events, with the new season focusing on rare medical issues and unusual social trends.
‘Court Cam’ (2019)
Starting January 13th, A&E’s ‘Court Cam’ returns for its tenth season. Host Dan Abrams takes viewers inside the most shocking and intense moments captured on camera in U.S. courtrooms. The show explains what happened with interviews from judges and those involved, and season 10 will feature even more dramatic cases and emotional scenes.
‘Tell Me Lies’ (2022)
Season three of ‘Tell Me Lies’ premieres January 13th, only on Hulu. The show continues to follow the complicated and unhealthy relationship between Lucy Albright and Stephen DeMarco, spanning several years. This season picks up after the dramatic events of the last one, showing the lasting effects of their lies and how early relationships in college can shape who people become as adults.
‘Pole to Pole’ (2026)
A new docuseries called ‘Pole to Pole’ premieres on National Geographic January 13th. The series follows a team of explorers on their incredible journey from the North Pole to the South Pole, highlighting the unique landscapes and harsh weather they face. It’s a stunning look at the beauty and vulnerability of Earth’s most isolated places.
‘Evil Lives Here’ (2016)
Starting January 13th, Investigation Discovery’s ‘Evil Lives Here’ returns for its nineteenth season. The show tells the stories of people who lived with—and knew—individuals who became infamous criminals or murderers. Family members share their firsthand experiences, detailing the red flags they missed and how these crimes forever changed their lives. This season continues to explore the unsettling reality of how close ordinary life can be to extreme violence.
‘Booked: First Day In’ (2023)
I recently checked out the latest season of ‘Booked: First Day In,’ and it’s a really compelling watch. Premiering January 13th, the show takes you inside the often-chaotic world of A&E, specifically the intake process at different correctional facilities. It’s fascinating – and sometimes heartbreaking – to see what happens the moment someone is arrested and how law enforcement handles everything. This season, what struck me most was how it focuses on people experiencing the justice system for the very first time, and the emotional and legal hurdles they immediately face. It’s a raw and realistic look at a system many of us don’t fully understand.
‘Suddenly Amish’ (2026)
On January 13th, TLC premieres ‘Suddenly Amish,’ a new reality show that follows people as they leave their modern lives to try living within an Amish community. The series shows the difficulties of adjusting to a simpler life without technology or everyday conveniences, and explores why these individuals make such a big change and the challenges they face fitting in.
‘Hijack’ (2023)
The thrilling series ‘Hijack’ is back for a second season, premiering January 14th on Apple TV+. Idris Elba returns as Sam Nelson, a skilled negotiator facing a new, intense situation. This season moves beyond the confines of an airplane, broadening the scope of the suspenseful story. Like the first season, ‘Hijack’ will unfold in real-time, keeping you on the edge of your seat.
‘Love Island: All Stars’ (2024)
Season three of ‘Love Island: All Stars’ premieres on Peacock January 14th. This season brings back fan favorites from past seasons, giving them a second chance at love. Filmed in a beautiful villa, the show features fun challenges and the familiar recoupling ceremonies. ‘Love Island: All Stars’ continues to be a popular reality TV show, known for its relationships, drama, and the lives of its contestants.
‘Riot Women’ (2025)
Okay, so I just screened ‘Riot Women,’ which is hitting BritBox on January 14th, and it’s a really charming watch. It centers around a group of women who decide to start a punk band a little later in life – think middle age and beyond! What I loved was how it balanced genuinely funny moments with really touching ones, as these women navigate rediscovering themselves, leaning on their friendships, and figuring out how to chase their dreams while still juggling family life. It’s a story about empowerment, definitely, but it feels incredibly relatable and real. It’s not just about the music; it’s about these women finding their voices, both on and off stage.
‘Gangs of London’ (2020)
Season three of ‘Gangs of London’ arrives on AMC+ on January 15th. The show continues to explore the brutal conflicts between powerful criminal gangs operating in London today. Following the explosive ending of the last season, expect new partnerships and the return of old grudges. ‘Gangs of London’ is famous for its intricate action sequences and realistic depiction of organized crime.
‘Ancient Aliens’ (2010)
The twenty-second season of ‘Ancient Aliens’ begins January 15th on the History Channel. The show explores the idea that aliens visited Earth long ago, with researchers and fans looking at ancient ruins, writings, and strange events for proof. This season will feature fresh perspectives on both historical puzzles and recent reports of unexplained sightings.
‘The Upshaws’ (2021)
I just finished watching the seventh season of ‘The Upshaws’ which dropped on Netflix on January 15th, and it’s still hitting all the right notes. This sitcom centers around a Black working-class family in Indiana, and honestly, it feels like watching your own family navigate life – the good, the bad, and everything in between. Bennie and Regina are still dealing with the joys and challenges of a blended family, and the hilarious tension between Bennie and his sister-in-law, Lucretia, is still a major highlight. What I appreciate about ‘The Upshaws’ is that it’s a classic, comfortable sitcom – filmed in that traditional multi-cam style – and it really focuses on those everyday family moments we can all relate to.
‘Animal Control’ (2023)
The fourth season of ‘Animal Control’ premieres on FOX January 15th. Joel McHale plays Frank, a somewhat grumpy animal control officer who connects more with animals than people. This funny show follows the everyday adventures and unusual situations faced by the local animal control team, and the new season will dive deeper into the connections between the officers.
‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ (2026)
On January 15th, Paramount+ is adding ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ to its lineup, expanding the Star Trek universe. The series follows a group of young cadets as they train at Starfleet Academy, learning to work as a team and facing a dangerous, old enemy of the Federation with help from experienced instructors. The show offers a new, energetic take on the classic Star Trek story.
‘Going Dutch’ (2025)
The second season of the FOX comedy ‘Going Dutch’ begins January 15th. The show centers on a proud American Army colonel transferred to a small, high-tech base in the Netherlands. He struggles to adjust to the laid-back Dutch military and tries to enforce his usual strict rules. This season will continue to explore the funny situations that arise from these cultural differences and the red tape he faces.
‘Ponies’ (2026)
The new drama series ‘Ponies’ premieres on Peacock January 15th. Set in 1970s Moscow, it tells the story of two secretaries at the American embassy who become entangled in Cold War spying and complicated personal lives while collecting important information. The show highlights the important, but often forgotten, contributions women made to international relations.
‘Homicide Squad New Orleans’ (2025)
I’m really excited that ‘Homicide Squad New Orleans’ is coming back to A&E on January 15th! I love watching this show because it follows the detectives of the New Orleans Police Department as they work through these tough murder cases. It’s fascinating to see how they use forensics and interview witnesses to solve crimes in such a unique city. This new season really shows how committed these officers are to keeping New Orleans safe.
‘Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials’ (2026)
On January 15th, Netflix will release ‘Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials,’ a fresh take on the beloved mystery novel. The story revolves around a weekend gathering where a joke turns deadly, and a determined young woman named Bundle Brent decides to uncover the truth behind a mysterious group called the Seven Dials. The series updates the classic ‘whodunit’ style with a modern, movie-like feel.
‘The UnXplained’ (2019)
Season 8 of ‘The UnXplained’ premieres January 16th on the History Channel. William Shatner hosts this series that investigates long-standing mysteries that continue to puzzle scientists and historians. Each episode dives into a different topic – like unusual buildings, strange animals, or unexplained psychic events – and features insights from experts and people who have experienced these mysteries firsthand.
‘Love During Lockup’ (2022)
The new season of We TV’s ‘Love During Lockup’ starts January 16th. The show follows people as they begin relationships with partners who are currently in jail or prison. It explores the difficulties of starting a romance through letters, phone calls, and visits, and this season introduces a new group of couples dealing with both legal hurdles and personal issues.
‘What Drives You with John Cena’ (2025)
Season two of ‘What Drives You with John Cena’ premieres on The Roku Channel January 16th. In the show, John Cena chats with celebrities while driving them around in a vehicle that’s personally significant to each guest. They discuss the guest’s life story, career highlights, and what inspires them. It’s a show that blends a passion for cars with revealing interviews.
‘The Nowhere Man’ (2025)
A new drama called ‘The Nowhere Man’ premieres on Starz January 16th. It centers on a former spy who’s been living a secluded life, but is pulled back into the dangerous world he left behind when someone from his past threatens his loved ones. The show promises intense action and explores the mental impact of a life of secrecy.
‘Horizons From PBS News’ (2026)
Starting January 17th, PBS will launch ‘Horizons From PBS News,’ a new series dedicated to exploring important global issues and the individuals striving to find solutions. Each episode will present detailed reports on topics like science, technology, and social progress, offering a hopeful and insightful look at the future.
‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ (2026)
I’m so excited for ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ coming to HBO on January 18th! It’s set in the world of ‘Game of Thrones,’ but it’s a prequel based on George R.R. Martin’s ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg.’ Basically, it follows the story of Ser Duncan the Tall and his young squire, Egg, about 90 years before everything we saw in ‘Game of Thrones.’ From what I understand, it’s going to focus more on the characters and their journeys, and show us a different side of the Targaryen family’s history.
‘The Hillside Strangler’ (2026)
A new docuseries called ‘The Hillside Strangler’ will debut on MGM+ on January 18th. It revisits the infamous serial killer case that frightened Los Angeles in the late 1970s. Using old footage and recent interviews, the series details the investigation and the troubled minds of the killers. It also shows how the case changed police work and public safety efforts.
Tell us which of these upcoming series you are most excited to watch in the comments.
