Here Are the Best TV Shows to Stream this Weekend on HBO Max, Including ‘IT: Welcome to Derry’

Looking for something to watch this weekend? HBO Max has a great selection of new and returning shows, including reality TV, true crime, scary documentaries, and brand-new docuseries. Here are ten recommendations – either newly released this weekend (October 31st – November 2nd) or available now to binge-watch. We’ve included a quick rundown of each show, who made it, and when it premiered to help you plan your perfect viewing schedule.

‘House Hunters’ (1999– )

As a long-time viewer, I can tell you this real estate show is a reliably good watch. Each episode follows buyers as they check out three properties with the help of local agents, and it’s always interesting to see how they weigh their budget, desired location, and what they absolutely need in a home. Andromeda Dunker’s narration is a nice touch, and Pie Town Productions consistently delivers a solid format. The latest episodes drop on HBO Max on October 31st. You can expect to meet the buyers, get a feel for the neighborhoods, and even see a quick update after they’ve made their decision – it’s a complete package.

‘Jonathan Ross: Haunted Homecoming’ (2024)

Jonathan Ross, a British broadcaster and horror fan, investigates spooky tales and local legends from his childhood neighborhood in London’s East End in this new mini-series. Each episode combines historical investigation, interviews with people who’ve had experiences, and visits to atmospheric locations. It premieres on HBO Max on Friday, October 31st. Produced by North One Television, the series explores these stories through Ross’s personal connection to the area.

‘Fatal Engineering’ (2025– )

This new documentary series explores famous engineering disasters by meticulously recreating the events. Experts use detailed analysis, computer modeling, and forensic investigation to uncover what went wrong – from initial design problems and human mistakes to larger organizational failures. The series premieres on HBO Max on October 30th. Created by Big Media, it aims to present crucial safety lessons in a way that everyone can understand.

‘Survival of the Beast’ (2025– )

As a total film buff, I’m really excited about this new series! It follows Max Djenohan, who’s basically an expert at understanding how animals survive in the harshest places on Earth. What’s cool is he then shows us how we can apply those same techniques to survive ourselves. It’s a beautiful mix of stunning wildlife footage and him actually demonstrating these survival skills in different environments. It’s hitting HBO Max on October 29th, and it focuses on things like finding water, building shelter, and staying cool – all the essential stuff for adapting and surviving.

‘American Monster’ (2016– )

This true-crime series on Investigation Discovery examines murder cases that were cleverly concealed. It uses a combination of home videos, interviews, and reenactments to tell the stories. Narrated by Tom Streithorst, each episode lays out the timeline, explores the relationships involved, and details the police investigation. New episodes become available on HBO Max every Wednesday starting October 29th. The show uniquely combines seemingly normal family footage with the shocking crimes that eventually came to light.

‘Naked and Afraid Brazil’ (2021– )

The Brazilian version of this survival show challenges pairs of contestants to live for 21 days in a tough wilderness environment – with absolutely no food, water, or clothes. Each contestant can bring only one tool to help them build shelter, find resources, and withstand the elements. The only time the crew intervenes is for medical emergencies. New episodes will be available on HBO Max starting Monday, October 27th. The series follows the contestants’ daily struggles, their strategies, and the physical impact of the challenge.

‘IT: Welcome to Derry’ (2025– )

This new series, a prequel to the popular horror story, explores the frightening origins of Pennywise and the town of Derry in 1962. Created by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs, and led by showrunners Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane, the show stars Jovan Adepo, Taylour Paige, Chris Chalk, James Remar, and Bill Skarsgård. It will begin streaming on HBO Max on October 26th. Andy Muschietti directed several episodes, and the music was composed by Benjamin Wallfisch.

‘Teen Titans Go!’ (2013– )

This funny animated series centers on the adventures of Robin, Starfire, Raven, Cyborg, and Beast Boy as they balance fighting crime with their everyday lives. The show features voice acting from Scott Menville, Hynden Walch, Tara Strong, Khary Payton, and Greg Cipes. New episodes will be available on HBO Max starting October 24th. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment, it’s known for its clever humor, music, and surprise appearances from special guests.

‘Expedition X’ (2020– )

Join field biologist Phil Torres and investigator Jessica Chobot as they explore strange mysteries around the globe in this series from the world of Josh Gates’s ‘Expedition.’ Each episode combines real-world investigations, nighttime explorations, and scientific analysis, often with the help of local experts and historians. The series premieres on HBO Max on Thursday, October 23, and later seasons will also include paranormal researcher Heather Amaro on certain cases.

‘Dangerously Obese’ (2025– )

This reality series documents the journeys of people struggling with extreme obesity as they undergo medically supervised weight-loss programs. Viewers will follow the patients’ progress with the help of bariatric surgeon Dr. Charles Procter, who provides expert guidance on evaluations, lifestyle adjustments, and potential surgeries. New episodes premiere on HBO Max on Thursday, October 23rd, and the show highlights both the medical challenges and the personal support systems crucial to long-term success.
