Now that the weekend is here, Netflix has added a bunch of new movies and shows! You’ll find everything from suspenseful thrillers from around the world to fun animated films and compelling dramas. They’ve got highly-rated new releases from Sweden, Spain, and South Korea, plus some films that were recently popular at film festivals. Whether you’re in the mood for a World War II adventure, a funny road trip comedy, or something else entirely, there’s plenty to choose from. Here are ten must-see movies you can stream on Netflix right now, with something for fans of true crime, heartwarming stories, and exciting action.
‘The Swedish Connection’ (2026)

The film tells the true story of Gösta Engzell, a Swedish government official who discovered the horrors of the Holocaust during World War II. Played by Henrik Dorsin, Engzell challenged Sweden’s neutral stance and secretly worked to save Jewish people by issuing them false passports. Directors Thérèse Ahlbeck and Marcus Olsson create a gripping and morally challenging story about one man’s courageous fight against overwhelming injustice, and the risks he took to bend the rules and save lives.
‘Firebreak’ (2026)

This gripping Spanish thriller, titled ‘Cortafuego’, follows a mother’s desperate fight to find her daughter after she goes missing in the woods during a devastating wildfire. Belén Cuesta stars as Mara, who travels to a secluded summer house to sell it, but her plans are interrupted when her daughter, Lide, disappears. When authorities call for an evacuation, Mara teams up with a local forest ranger, played by Enric Auquer, and refuses to leave, embarking on a perilous search. The film blends the intense action of a disaster movie with the suspense of a psychological mystery as the wildfire threatens everyone involved.
‘Pavane’ (2026)

Inspired by the novel ‘Pavane for a Dead Princess’, this South Korean film is a gentle romance about three young people struggling with feelings of isolation. Mi-jung, played by Go Ah-sung, is a withdrawn department store employee, and Moon Sang-min stars as Gyeong-rok, a man who’s given up on his passion for dance. Director Lee Jong-pil beautifully connects their stories with that of a carefree parking attendant, showing how they find comfort and heal emotionally through their relationships. The film offers a delicate and evocative portrayal of connection forming amidst the energy of a busy city.
‘The Orphans’ (2025)

This French thriller brings back Alban Lenoir and Dali Benssalah, playing Gabriel and Driss – childhood friends who grew up to lead very different lives, one as a police officer and the other as someone who cleans up messes for criminals. When the teenage daughter of a woman they both knew disappears while investigating her mother’s mysterious death, they’re forced to team up. Director Olivier Schneider fills the film with intense fight scenes and fast-paced chases as the two men venture into the dangerous side of Paris. The movie combines thrilling action with the complicated feelings of a damaged friendship and a history that won’t stay buried.
‘A Father’s Miracle’ (2025)

This moving drama is the Mexican version of the popular film ‘Miracle in Cell No. 7’. It stars Omar Chaparro as Héctor, a devoted father who lives with a neurological condition. When Héctor is falsely accused of a serious crime and sent to prison, he finds support from his fellow inmates as he tries to stay connected to his daughter. The film shows how flawed the justice system can be, but also celebrates the strength of the human spirit and the powerful love between a parent and child. Be prepared for a deeply emotional story that combines heartwarming and funny moments with a realistic look at life behind bars.
‘KPop Demon Hunters’ (2025)

Sony Pictures Animation’s new movie is a colorful, action-packed musical about HUNTR/X, a globally popular K-pop group with a secret mission: saving the world! By day, they’re performing for huge crowds, but by night, they’re fighting evil spirits, using their incredible dance moves and stylish looks as their superpowers. The animation is full of energy and perfectly captures the exciting world of K-pop, making it a fun, supernatural adventure the whole family can enjoy.
‘The Investigation of Lucy Letby’ (2025)

As a critic, I found this documentary a truly chilling watch. It meticulously unpacks the disturbing case of the neonatal nurse convicted of harming babies at the Countess of Chester Hospital. The filmmakers brilliantly piece together the timeline using actual court records, police interviews, and insights from experts. What’s particularly clever is how they’ve used technology to protect the identities of some who spoke with them, while still allowing us to see the evidence presented by both sides in court. It’s a deeply sobering and detailed look not just at the crimes, but at the failures within the system and the complex forensic work that ultimately led to the verdict – a truly significant case in the UK.
‘Joe’s College Road Trip’ (2026)

Tyler Perry is back with a funny new movie about the ups and downs of heading off to college. The story centers on Joe, a grumpy grandfather, who has to drive his grandson, B.J., across the country for his first year of college. Their road trip is full of funny problems, quirky people, and family issues that challenge both of them. Expect Perry’s classic style of comedy – a mix of silly situations and heartfelt family moments.
‘The Iron Claw’ (2023)

The film stars Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White, telling the true story of the Von Erich family, a famous wrestling dynasty. It shows how their demanding father, Fritz Von Erich, pushed them to succeed in the 1980s, and the heavy physical and emotional toll it took. Director Sean Durkin portrays both the brutal side of professional wrestling and the personal tragedies that haunted the family, creating a powerful and unsettling look at themes of brotherhood, harmful masculinity, and the burden of a family name.
‘Triangle of Sadness’ (2022)

I was completely blown away by Ruben Östlund’s latest film! It starts as this glamorous look at the super-rich on a cruise, but quickly spirals into total mayhem. You follow a model couple, played by Harris Dickinson and Charlbi Dean, who end up stranded on a deserted island with some really unexpected company – a Russian oligarch and the ship’s crew – after a disaster at sea. What’s fascinating is how quickly things change; suddenly, knowing how to survive matters way more than money or fame. It’s a really sharp and sometimes disturbing look at wealth, the fashion world, and what truly matters, and Woody Harrelson is incredible as the ship’s captain – totally unforgettable!
