Okay, so I checked out what Hulu’s offering this weekend, and honestly, there’s a ton to choose from. They’ve got everything – brand new sci-fi that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat, and some really great classic biopics. It’s cool to see some movies that just left theaters popping up on the platform, alongside all the big blockbusters we know and love, and even some older favorites. Seriously, no matter what you’re in the mood for – a scary night, a good laugh with a smart comedy, or something totally different – Hulu’s got you covered. It’s a really solid lineup this weekend, a great selection for any movie fan.
‘Urchin’ (2025)

Harris Dickinson, a well-known actor, directs this intense British drama. The film centers on Mike, played by Frank Dillane, a young, homeless man in London battling a serious addiction and haunted by disturbing visions of his past. As Mike tries to survive on the streets, he meets an enigmatic person who compels him to face the trauma he’s been avoiding. Critics have lauded the film’s realistic and unflinching portrayal of life among society’s most vulnerable, as well as Dillane’s compelling performance.
‘The Astronaut’ (2025)

Kate Mara plays Sam Walker, an astronaut rescued from the ocean after her spacecraft crashes during a mission. She’s kept under strict observation in an isolated house by General William Harris (Laurence Fishburne), and soon starts to feel physically ill and increasingly paranoid. Sam believes an alien creature came back with her and is endangering those around her. This science fiction thriller combines unsettling physical transformations with intense psychological suspense, leaving the audience to question what’s truly happening and what’s a result of her ordeal.
‘Ella McCay’ (2025)

James L. Brooks, the acclaimed director, is back with a new comedy-drama featuring Emma Mackey as a hopeful young politician. The film centers on Ella, who unexpectedly becomes governor while also dealing with a messy personal life. With a strong supporting cast including Woody Harrelson as her father and Jamie Lee Curtis as her aunt, the story delves into the challenges of maintaining a personal life amidst the pressures of public office and family drama. It’s a look at how difficult it is to balance serving the public with personal struggles in a high-pressure world.
‘Predator: Badlands’ (2025)

Director Dan Trachtenberg takes the ‘Predator’ story in a new direction by showing things from the Predator’s point of view. The film centers on Dek, a young Predator warrior who’s been banished to a dangerous planet and must prove himself by hunting a powerful creature. He unexpectedly teams up with an android played by Elle Fanning. This installment dives deeper into the Predator’s culture and social structure while still delivering the thrilling action the series is known for. Set in the future, it’s a unique survival story that feels different from previous ‘Predator’ films.
‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ (2021)

This new Ghostbusters film breathes fresh life into the series, shifting the story to a small town in Oklahoma. A mother and her two children stumble upon their grandfather’s hidden history and the original Ghostbusters’ gear, leading them to confront a rising supernatural danger. Director Jason Reitman cleverly honors his father’s classic films while introducing a new team of ghost hunters. The movie successfully blends familiar nostalgia with a touching story about growing up, all leading to a moving ending that connects the old and new generations.
‘Smile’ (2022)

In this chilling horror film, Sosie Bacon plays Dr. Rose Cotter, a therapist deeply disturbed after witnessing a patient’s shocking suicide. Soon, Rose finds herself plagued by terrifying and unexplainable events, all connected to a creepy smiling figure. As her sense of reality unravels, she must delve into the origins of a disturbing curse and find a way to stop it before it destroys her. The film builds tension through shocking moments and a constant feeling of unease.
‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ (2022)

After the death of King T’Challa, Wakanda faces threats from outside forces, and Queen Ramonda, Shuri, M’Baku, and the Dora Milaje must defend their nation. A new enemy arises in the form of Namor, the king of a secret underwater kingdom, challenging Wakanda in powerful ways. Directed by Ryan Coogler, the film explores themes of loss and remembrance while introducing a new world within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It honors the memory of Chadwick Boseman and marks an important turning point in the Black Panther story.
‘Django Unchained’ (2012)

Quentin Tarantino’s latest film is a visually striking and often violent western set before the Civil War. It tells the story of Django, a former slave who teams up with a German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) to rescue his wife from a cruel plantation owner, Calvin Candie. The movie is known for its witty dialogue, exciting gunfights, and excellent performances by Jamie Foxx and Leonardo DiCaprio. It blends Tarantino’s unique filmmaking style with a compelling story of revenge, and powerfully addresses historical injustices with a dramatic flair.
‘The Mummy’ (1999)

In “The Mummy,” Brendan Fraser plays Rick O’Connell, an adventurer who leads a librarian and her brother on a journey to the legendary city of Hamunaptra. They unintentionally unleash Imhotep, a powerful, cursed priest who brings ancient Egyptian plagues with him. The film is a thrilling mix of action, horror, comedy, and romance, and was known for its impressive special effects when it was released. It’s still a fan favorite thanks to its exciting spirit and the great connection between the main actors.
‘La Bamba’ (1987)

This movie is a moving story about Ritchie Valens, a young Mexican-American who went from working in the fields to becoming a rock and roll sensation. Lou Diamond Phillips plays Valens, showing his struggles with family, prejudice, and the challenges of quick fame as he creates hits like “Donna” and the song featured in the film’s title. The movie brings the energetic 1950s music world to life and highlights Valens’s important influence, despite his short career. It ends with the tragic plane crash that took the lives of Valens, Buddy Holly, and The Big Bopper.
