Here Are the Best Movies to Stream this Weekend on Hulu, Including a Fun Mystery Flick

Hulu is adding a lot of new movies and shows this weekend, including critically acclaimed dramas, exciting action films, and beloved romantic comedies. There’s something for everyone, from historical stories to modern thrillers. Here’s a look at some of the highlights so you can plan what to watch. These new titles are part of Hulu’s regularly updated selection of both licensed content and original shows.

‘Tin Soldier’ (2025)

“Tin Soldier” is a fast-paced thriller about a secretive program that recruits ex-soldiers to build a private army. Government agent Emmanuel Ashburn goes undercover to expose the program’s leader and dismantle the organization. Starring Robert De Niro and Jamie Foxx, the film combines intense action with a look at the challenges faced by veterans today.

‘Wicked Little Letters’ (2024)

“Wicked Little Letters” is a comedic mystery inspired by a real scandal from the 1920s. The story centers around a quiet English town disrupted by a series of shocking letters received by Edith Swan, a traditional resident. She suspects her lively neighbor, Rose Gooding, of sending them. Eventually, a group of local women band together to uncover the truth behind the letters. Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley star as the feuding neighbors.

’12 Years a Slave’ (2013)

Steve McQueen’s film, ’12 Years a Slave,’ depicts the harrowing true story of Solomon Northup, a free man from New York who was kidnapped and forced into slavery. The film follows his twelve-year ordeal working on Louisiana plantations, where he faced terrible physical and emotional abuse. It powerfully illustrates the cruelty of slavery in the pre-Civil War South and is a critically acclaimed film that won an Academy Award for Best Picture.

‘Django Unchained’ (2012)

Okay, so I just saw Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained,’ and wow. It’s a really stylish take on the Western, telling the story of a former slave who teams up with a German bounty hunter to save his wife. Their quest takes them right into the heart of Mississippi, and into the lair of a truly awful plantation owner. It’s a dangerous game of cat and mouse, full of twists and turns. Tarantino clearly loves those old Spaghetti Westerns, and you can feel that influence here, but it’s also a film that really grapples with themes of revenge and what justice actually looks like. And the performances? Jamie Foxx is fantastic, Christoph Waltz is, as always, brilliant, and Leonardo DiCaprio really leans into playing a truly despicable villain. Definitely a memorable movie.

‘Unstoppable’ (2010)

‘Unstoppable’ is a thrilling action movie based on a real-life incident. It follows a runaway freight train loaded with dangerous chemicals and the desperate efforts of an experienced engineer and a rookie conductor to prevent a disaster. As the train speeds towards a populated area, emergency crews race against time to control the situation across the Pennsylvania countryside. Notably, this film was the last directed by Tony Scott.

‘(500) Days of Summer’ (2009)

‘(500) Days of Summer’ is a charming and unconventional romantic comedy-drama that tells the story of a couple’s failed relationship. The film doesn’t follow a straight timeline, instead jumping between different moments from their 500-day connection to show how things fell apart. It’s a fresh take on the genre, focusing on how we remember relationships and how personal romance really is. Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel, this indie film has become a beloved favorite.

‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ (2005)

‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ tells the story of a married couple who are secretly both professional assassins, but working for rival organizations. Their lives get incredibly complicated when they’re given the assignment to kill each other, sparking a series of dangerous and exciting battles. The movie mixes thrilling action with humor as they reconnect through fighting. Starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, it was a major success at the box office.

‘Pretty Woman’ (1990)

‘Pretty Woman’ is a contemporary twist on the classic Cinderella story. It centers around a successful businessman who hires a sex worker to be his companion for various events. As they move through the glamorous world of Beverly Hills, they form an unlikely connection, despite coming from very different walks of life. The movie uses their romance to examine issues of social class and the possibility of change. Starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, it’s a beloved and impactful romantic comedy.

‘When Harry Met Sally…’ (1989)

‘When Harry Met Sally…’ playfully explores the question of whether men and women can maintain a purely platonic friendship. The movie follows Harry and Sally over twelve years as their paths cross and their friendship develops in New York City. Known for its smart, funny conversations and honest portrayal of relationships, the film—written by Nora Ephron—features memorable performances by Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan that have become hallmarks of the romantic comedy genre.

‘Soul Food’ (1997)

“Soul Food” is a touching story about a close Chicago family facing hardship when their mother falls into a coma. The film is seen through the eyes of a young boy who attempts to reunite his aunts and uncles by reviving their cherished tradition of Sunday dinners. It beautifully illustrates the power of family, the importance of cultural roots, and how these things can help people through difficult times. The movie stars Vanessa Williams, Vivica A. Fox, and Nia Long, among others.
