‘Bone Lake’ (2025)

When two couples retreat to a remote lakeside mansion for a weekend getaway, things take a sinister turn, leading to both seduction and violence. The film, directed by Mercedes Bryce Morgan and written by Joshua Friedlander, features Maddie Hasson, Alex Roe, Andra Nechita, and Marco Pigossi, and opens in U.S. cinemas on October 3rd.

Bleecker Street will distribute the film in the U.S. after it premieres at Fantastic Fest on September 21, 2024, and screens at FrightFest in the U.K. in August 2025. The movie combines the suspense of a survival story with the intensity of an erotic thriller.

‘Good Boy’ (2025)

This spooky thriller is told entirely from a dog’s perspective. The story centers on a devoted retriever who feels a ghostly presence after he and his owner move to a house in the countryside. Directed and written by Ben Leonberg (and Alex Cannon), and featuring Shane Jensen, Arielle Friedman, Larry Fessenden, and Indy the dog, the film hits theaters on October 3rd.

The filmmakers famously filmed with the real Leonberg dog over several years, prioritizing a natural perspective over visual effects. The movie will be released by IFC/Shudder after its debut at the SXSW festival in 2025.

‘Coyotes’ (2025)

When a wildfire threatens their Hollywood Hills home, a family finds themselves battling not only the flames but also a dangerous group of coyotes. The film, starring Justin Long, Kate Bosworth, and others, was written by Tad Daggerhart and Nick Simon and directed by Colin Minihan. It will be released in theaters on October 3rd.

The film first debuted at Fantastic Fest on September 20, 2025, and was then released to a wider audience. In addition to directing, John Minihan also served as the editor, and Brittany Allen composed the music.

‘Scared Shitless’ (2025)

Vivieno Caldinelli’s new horror-comedy, a deliberately shocking and funny film, will be released in select theaters and for streaming on October 3rd. Early buzz highlighted its outrageous concept and surprisingly well-made production.

Initial reports indicate a limited release on the launch date, alongside other films in the same genre. It’s expected to be available digitally on the same weekend as its theatrical release.

‘Shell’ (2025)

Max Minghella’s new dark comedy-horror film, featuring Elisabeth Moss, Kate Hudson, and Kaia Gerber, debuted at TIFF 2024. It will be released in select theaters and available to rent or buy digitally on October 3rd through Republic Pictures. The movie blends the world of wellness trends with a suspenseful slasher plot.

I’m so excited about this project – the cast is amazing! You’ve got Elizabeth Berkley, Randall Park, Arian Moayed, and a bunch of other fantastic actors. Plus, it’s going to be released in theaters and available to stream at the same time, which is perfect for everyone!

‘Scurry’ (2025)

Luke Sparke’s new survival horror film takes place entirely underground, where two people are trapped as a city crumbles around them and a terrifying creature hunts them. It will be released in limited theaters and for streaming on October 3, distributed by Signature Entertainment.

Promotional materials suggest the film is an apocalyptic thriller about a creature attack. It’s an Australian production directed by Sparke, filmed in Queensland, and lasts approximately 90 minutes.

‘She Loved Blossoms More’ (2025)

In his new film, Greek director Yannis Veslemes blends science fiction, horror, and deep sorrow to tell the story of three brothers who create a time machine in a desperate attempt to bring their mother back to life. The film will be released in select U.S. theaters and digitally on October 3rd, distributed by Dark Sky Films/Yellow Veil.

This 88-minute film debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2024, and was also shown at Fantastic Fest and Sitges, where it won the Noves Visions Award. It combines different genres with a distinctive visual style.

‘Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Oval Portrait”‘ (2025)

A new ghost story, inspired by Edgar Allan Poe, opens on Friday, October 10th. It follows a thief, a shopkeeper, and an artist who become trapped by a dangerous painting. The film is a suspenseful thriller with a traditional gothic feel.

I’m so excited – the movie is officially hitting U.S. theaters on that date! And get this – I just saw that Grimehouse is actually producing it, which is awesome!

‘Black Phone 2’ (2025)

Director Scott Derrickson is back with a follow-up to his 2021 film, bringing back stars Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, and Madeleine McGraw. The new movie picks up four years later, with Finney and Gwen dealing with the aftermath of more supernatural events. It hits theaters on October 17th, courtesy of Universal Pictures.

The movie first showed at Fantastic Fest on September 20, 2025, and initial reviews mention a haunting, surreal style and the return of the character known as the Grabber.

‘Frankenstein’ (2025)

Guillermo del Toro’s version of Mary Shelley’s classic story, featuring Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, and Mia Goth, will be shown in select theaters starting October 17th before becoming available on Netflix November 7th. It first premiered at the Venice Film Festival on August 30, 2025.

‘Thamma’ (2025)

This new movie, part of the Maddock Films horror-comedy world, is a romantic thriller with a vampire twist. It stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, and also features Nawazuddin Siddiqui. It will be released in India on October 21st, coinciding with the Diwali festival.

The movie’s promotion hints at appearances from characters in other films-including Varun Dhawan from ‘Bhediya’-and promises a mix of romance, mythology, and exciting supernatural action. It’s currently scheduled to be released in U.S. theaters on October 21st.

‘Shelby Oaks’ (2025)

Chris Stuckmann’s first feature film, a thriller about a woman searching for her sister while confronting a terrifying childhood legend, will be released in the U.S. by NEON on October 24th, starting with a limited release. The film, which uses a found-footage style, first premiered at the Fantasia film festival in 2024.

I’ve been following the buzz, and everyone’s saying this film is a really cool mix of styles – it feels like a documentary, uses old footage, and tells a scary story all at once! It looks like it’s going to be released in North America around the end of October, but it’ll be a limited release, so you’ll have to look for it!

‘Queens of the Dead’ (2025)

Directed by Tina Romero, daughter of horror legend George A. Romero, this horror-comedy takes place in Brooklyn. It follows drag queens and club kids as they fight off a zombie outbreak that begins during a nightclub performance. The film will be released in U.S. theaters on October 24th.

The show features a talented cast including Riki Lindhome, Nina West, Dominique Jackson, Cheyenne Jackson, and Margaret Cho. Independent Film Company will be distributing it.

The film is being produced by Night Shift Studios and YNOT Studios, and it’s currently scheduled for release in India on October 31st.

‘It: Welcome to Derry’ (2025– )

I’m so excited for the new Stephen King series! It starts on Sunday, October 26th, on HBO/Max, and Bill Skarsgård is back as Pennywise, which is amazing. This season mostly takes place in 1962 and tells the story of Charlotte and Leroy Hanlon, showing us even more about the dark history of Derry. Andy Muschietti is directing a lot of the episodes and is also an executive producer, so I know it’s going to be great.
