‘The Stringer: The Man Who Took the Photo’ (2025)

I just finished watching this incredible documentary, and it really got me thinking about the famous ‘Napalm Girl’ photo from the Vietnam War. It dives deep into who actually took that iconic picture, and it turns out the story we all thought we knew might not be entirely true! The director, Bao Nguyen, spent two years looking at old records and talking to people who were there, journalists and witnesses, to try and figure it all out. There’s even a bit of a dispute with the Associated Press about who deserves the credit, which is pretty fascinating. It’s about 100 minutes long, and it’s backed by XRM Media and The VII Foundation. Honestly, it’s a really compelling look at a pivotal moment in history and the story behind the image.
‘Left-Handed Girl’ (2025)

This film, set in Taipei, tells the story of a mother and her two daughters who begin a new life running a food stall at a night market. It realistically portrays their daily challenges with work, school, and cultural norms. Directed by Shih-Ching Tsou, and co-written and produced with Sean Baker, the movie has been praised for its personal and realistic style. It thoughtfully examines the stigma surrounding left-handedness while also exploring themes of family strength and the immigrant experience. After premiering at Cannes Critics’ Week and playing at various film festivals, Netflix acquired the rights to stream it in many countries.
