‘Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point’ (2024)

‘Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point’ is a film set during a lively family Christmas gathering on Long Island. As the family comes together for what could be their final Christmas in their childhood home, old tensions and fond memories come to the surface. Directed by Tyler Taormina (who also co-wrote the script with Eric Berger), the movie stars Matilda Fleming, Maria Dizzia, Ben Shenkman, Francesca Scorsese, Elsie Fisher, Sawyer Spielberg, and Michael Cera, who also helped produce it. With beautiful cinematography by Carson Lund and editing by Kevin Anton, the film has a natural, observational feel. Produced by Omnes Films and distributed by IFC, it’s a blend of humor and heart, focusing on the little moments that make family traditions special.
‘American Murderer’ (2022)

‘American Murderer’ is a true-crime drama based on the story of Jason Derek Brown, a charming con artist who became one of the FBI’s Most Wanted. The film, written and directed by Matthew Gentile, follows Brown’s complex web of lies and the investigation that eventually caught up with him. Tom Pelphrey plays Brown, and the cast also includes Ryan Phillippe, Idina Menzel, Jacki Weaver, and Paul Schneider, among others. It premiered in 2022 and has a runtime of a little over 100 minutes.
‘Bride or Die’ (2025)

‘Bride or Die’ follows Allie and her friends as a relaxing bachelorette weekend at a remote lake house turns terrifying when a dangerous stranger shows up. Written and directed by Nanea Miyata and produced by Lunar Field, the thriller explores how far these women will go to protect each other when they find themselves trapped. It’s a suspenseful, fast-paced mystery that unfolds in one location, with the stakes getting higher and the characters relying on their wits to survive.
‘Sovereign’ (2025)

I just finished watching ‘Sovereign,’ a gripping crime thriller that takes its roots from the real 2010 West Memphis police shootings. It’s a really intense story about a father, Jerry Kane, and his son, Joe, who get pulled into the world of the sovereign citizen movement. Nick Offerman and Jacob Tremblay are fantastic as this father-son duo, and Dennis Quaid plays the local Police Chief, adding even more weight to the drama. The film really digs into how people become radicalized and the tough spot it puts kids in when their parents’ beliefs clash with what feels right. It’s a strong cast overall, with Thomas Mann, Nancy Travis, and Martha Plimpton all delivering solid performances. Clocking in at just over an hour and forty minutes, ‘Sovereign’ is a thought-provoking and unsettling watch.
‘A Star Is Born’ (2018)

‘A Star Is Born’ tells the story of Jackson Maine, an established musician who falls in love with Ally, a talented singer-songwriter. As their relationship grows, their careers take different paths. Bradley Cooper, who also directed the film, stars alongside Lady Gaga. The screenplay is credited to Cooper, Eric Roth, and Will Fetters, and the cast also features Sam Elliott, Dave Chappelle, and Andrew Dice Clay. The film’s songs are original and performed by the actors as their characters, and the filming style focused on capturing the feel of a live performance, thanks to cinematographer Matthew Libatique. A production of MGM and others, and distributed by Warner Bros., ‘A Star Is Born’ was both a commercial success and received numerous award nominations.
