Henry Cavill Slashes Into Action in First Look at Chad Stahelski’s ‘Highlander’ Reboot

Henry Cavill has begun filming the reboot of the classic film Highlander, and he’s given fans a first glimpse with two photos shared on Instagram. After years of anticipation, production is officially underway.

I was so thrilled to see Henry Cavill post the first official photos from ‘Highlander’ himself! Instagram was the place to be, honestly. He shared a message with the pictures saying how happy he is to finally reveal them, and that it’s been a real journey getting the movie made – he promised to tell us all about it later. It really sounds like it’s been a long and tough road, but seeing those photos made it all worthwhile!

Henry Cavill was originally cast in the Highlander reboot in 2021, but the film’s production has been repeatedly delayed. Filming was put on hold late last year when Cavill was injured while preparing for the role. Now, production is finally underway with Chad Stahelski – known for directing the John Wick films – at the helm.

Although the initial photos don’t reveal much about the plot, they create a sense of tension and realism. One image shows Henry Cavill wielding a large sword, hinting at the action-packed battles fans expect. The scenery in the photos also suggests the movie will be filmed in various places around the world, indicating a sweeping, international story instead of one confined to a single location.

The new film features a strong supporting cast alongside Henry Cavill, including Russell Crowe, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Dave Bautista, Marisa Abela, and Max Zhang. The screenplay is by Michael Finch, building on previous work by Ryan J. Condal and Kerry Williamson.

The story of Highlander started with the 1986 movie featuring Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, a centuries-old immortal warrior from Scotland. Sean Connery played his teacher, and Clancy Brown was the film’s villain. Over the years, the movie expanded into several sequels, a TV series, and other related projects, keeping the Highlander universe going strong for decades.

As a huge Highlander fan, I’m really excited about this new take! It seems like they’re blending the classic sword fighting with the kind of fast-paced action we see in movies today. And with Henry Cavill as the lead and Chad Stahelski directing – seriously, the guy who did John Wick – my expectations are through the roof! I think this could really bring Highlander back to its former glory.
