Highlander reboot details

Information regarding the Highlander reboot is still scarce, however, production has recently shifted to Amazon Studios. It’s speculated that Henry Cavill will embody Connor MacLeod, but at this point, no other cast members have been officially confirmed. As of now, no other actors are being whispered for roles, although if the reboot follows the original storyline, characters like Ramirez (originally played by Sean Connery) and Kurgan (previously portrayed by Clancy Brown) could appear.

Henry Cavill Stars As Centuries-Old Warrior

Previously, Chad Stahelski enthusiastically discussed his vision for the upcoming “Highlander” film, emphasizing that it would deliver an abundance of thrilling action sequences. Moreover, he has hinted at incorporating the iconic music by Queen, which he considers essential to the movie’s spirit.

We’re transporting this concept from the Scottish Highlands in the 1500s to modern-day New York and Hong Kong, and observing its progress. There’s a significant potential for an engaging narrative. The role offers a unique chance, not commonly experienced by many actors. It’s not your typical love story, but it holds a fresh twist. On ‘John Wick,’ I picked up valuable insights on how to subtly manipulate the storyline, creating another kind of myth.

In essence, what made my proposition appealing was presenting Henry Cavill with a unique character: a man who has lived for more than five centuries. This individual is the last one on earth who didn’t want to be in this predicament. Therefore, the role offers an extensive range of development for the character, and you get to explore someone who has been trained for over 500 years in various martial arts.

Production details

According to IMDb, there are three writers credited with working on the script. One of them is Ryan J. Condal, who serves as showrunner for “House of the Dragon” and has previously worked on shows like “Colony,” movies such as Dwayne Johnson’s “Rampage” and “Hercules.” Another writer listed is Michael Finch, known for penning the screenplay for “John Wick 4” directed by Stahelski, and reportedly serving as the main writer. Lastly, Kerry Williamson is also credited as a writer, with experience in episodes of the “Resident Evil” TV series, as well as movies like “What Happened to Monday,” and “Alex Cross.

In terms of production, notable figures are: Neal H. Moritz, a prolific producer with credits like ‘The Boys’, the ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ films, ‘Preacher’, and the ‘Fast and the Furious’ series. Another name to watch out for is Louise Rosner, recognized for her work on ‘Borderlands’, ‘Hunger Games’, and as executive producer of ‘John Wick 4’. Lastly, Gregory Widen, creator of ‘Highlander’, is also mentioned as a producer.

The artists who worked on these concepts could potentially indicate the mood of the upcoming Highlander remake, as they’ve previously done art for films like Blade Runner 2049, Guardians of the Galaxy, Transformers, Inception, Total Recall, Free Guy, Mulan, and many others.

No release date has been set.
