Cue the music. Has Henry Cavill joined Game of Thrones?!

A video from New York Comic-Con is circulating online, and viewers believe it hints at a significant new actor joining the cast of Season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

During a recent panel discussion in October, actors Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell seemed to unintentionally mention Henry Cavill, sparking rumors that he’ll be playing Daemon Blackfyre in future flashback scenes.

Henry Cavill As Daemon Blackfyre?

In the video, Peter Claffey, the actor playing Ser Duncan the Tall, asks a publicist if he’s allowed to talk openly. She gives him the go-ahead as long as he doesn’t reveal any plot details, likely until the show airs – which could be why the video is now circulating online.

Claffey says his character is similar to Geralt of Rivia as portrayed by Henry Cavill in the first season of The Witcher.

That’s when Dexter Sol Ansell, the actor who plays Egg, spoke up and began to say, “Can we mention Henry Cavill…”

Claffey immediately cuts him off.

“No no no — God don’t say that… Sorry… You didn’t hear that [laughs],” said Claffey.

Many fans think Ansell was on the verge of revealing Henry Cavill’s role in the second season, possibly as Daemon Blackfyre – a famous character from the Targaryen family involved in a historical rebellion.

Who Is Daemon Blackfyre?

Daemon Blackfyre is a key figure in the history of the Targaryen dynasty. Though born as an illegitimate son of King Aegon IV, he later established House Blackfyre and led a revolt against the ruling Targaryen family.

Having just finished watching A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, I can tell you that one character absolutely dominates the narrative. The story takes place decades after the initial Blackfyre Rebellion, but the shadow of that conflict hangs over everything – it’s clear the repercussions are still being felt by everyone involved.

The second season is currently being developed and will explore the backstory of key events through flashbacks. This means we’re likely to see Daemon Blackfyre appear as a character.

Signing Henry Cavill would be a huge win for HBO and Warner Bros., particularly because he’s so well-liked by fans of fantasy genres.
