To kick off the new Highlander reboot, it’s crucial that Henry Cavill is ready to jump on board. Unfortunately, he’s currently unavailable. It seems that even immortal characters can sustain injuries. Cavill suffered an injury during film preparations, causing the production to be pushed back until 2026.
Initially, Cavill suffered an injury during the preparations for Chad Stahelski’s forthcoming remake of ‘Highlander’. The specifics of his injury remain undisclosed, but it appears to be significant enough that production may not start until early 2026, as shooting had originally been scheduled to begin this month according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In this upcoming movie from Amazon MGM Studios’ United Artists division, Henry Cavill steps into the role previously played by Christopher Lambert in the 1986 classic – Connor MacLeod, an iconic immortal character. A number of other well-known actors are set to appear alongside Cavill. Russell Crowe will portray Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, a role Sean Connery originally played. Karen Gillan has been cast as Heather, MacLeod’s mortal wife and the love of his life. Dave Bautista has signed on to play The Kurgen, the film’s chief antagonist, an infamous immortal character.

This temporary delay carries significant implications by itself. Moreover, it’s causing a hindrance in the studio’s ambitious plans for the property. The upcoming Highlander franchise is set to be launched extensively. Chad Stahelski has agreed to manage both the John Wick and Highlander series, following his new contract with Lionsgate. However, you can’t start an entire franchise without producing the initial film, and until Cavill is capable of wielding a sword and battling The Kurgen, that cannot happen.
Yet, devoted Highlander enthusiasts are well aware that MacLeod’s well-being remains unscathed in the long run. An immortal like him could only be truly halted by a wound so severe it would postpone the film indefinitely.
