Upon witnessing Kris Kristofferson’s performance prior to their collaboration, Barbra Streisand firmly believed she was seeing a genuine star rise. In a touching tribute, the actress paid homage to her late co-star who sadly passed away at the age of 88 on September 28th.
The actress posted on Instagram to reminisce about Kristofferson and revealed to her followers the unique impression made by witnessing his performance for the very first time.
Initially, when I witnessed Kris perform at the Troubadour club in Los Angeles, I instantly felt he was extraordinary. With bare feet and playing his guitar effortlessly, he seemed tailor-made for a project I was working on, which later evolved into A Star Is Born.
She mentioned that she and the deceased country artist performed the film’s primary love song, titled “Evergreen,” in the movie, as it was a composition she herself penned.
The tale also mentioned that in 2019, she invited the renowned country singer to duet with her again on stage for the song “Lost Inside of You”, during her performance at London’s Hyde Park. She added, “He was as charming as always, and the crowd applauded him enthusiastically. It was a delight witnessing him receive the appreciation and affection he truly deserved.
At the end of her tribute, Streisand expressed her thoughts towards Kristofferson’s spouse, Lisa, recognizing the unwavering support she provided him in all aspects.
Yet, that film held a significant impact not only for Streisand but also for Kristofferson. The part he played in it marked the beginning of his journey towards sobriety as it helped him conquer his alcohol addiction. In a 1998 interview with People magazine, he shared his thoughts on how this experience steered him towards abstinence.
Kristofferson revealed that viewing scenes from the movie, specifically where his character passed away, motivated him to bring about a transformation. He confided in the media outlet that contemplating his own children and wife grieving for him struck a profound chord within him. The artist elaborated that he didn’t wish to perish before his daughter had fully grown up.
Following his decision to live a sober life, Kristofferson encountered Lisa Meyers in 1982, and they subsequently welcomed five children into their family. Notably, he was also a parent to three kids from a past relationship.
