As a dedicated follower of Hollywood and a parent myself, I can truly appreciate the balancing act that Halle Berry and Mark Wahlberg have mastered. Listening to their interview about The Union, it’s clear they not only excel as actors but also prioritize their families without compromising on their work ethic.
Before the premiere of their upcoming Netflix movie titled “The Union“, Halle Berry and Mark Wahlberg sat down for a special interview with Audacy. In this conversation, they discuss their strategies for juggling their roles as performers and parents.
During the interview, Berry, aged 58, discloses that Wahlberg, also 53, is extremely accessible to their children Ella (20), Grace (14), as well as sons Michael (18) and Brendan (15). These kids are all jointly raised with his spouse Rhea Durham.
She stated, “If one of his children phoned during that instant, we’d be ready to depart and he’d respond with a ‘Hello’, always eager and unstoppable in this regard,” indicating his strong commitment towards his kids, often engaged with them at any time, day or night.
As a devoted colleague, I can’t help but commend my co-star for his exceptional ability to juggle numerous responsibilities. Just like managing various businesses and whatnot, he is. What’s truly impressive is that even when he jetsets off, upon return, he’s always well-prepared. One might assume that someone handling such a vast workload would be casual about it, but not him. He’s always on top of his game, meticulously prepared. It was a pleasure to collaborate with professionals like him, as such dedication isn’t a common sight in today’s industry.
Mark Wahlberg also praised Halle Berry for successfully juggling her role as a mother with her work commitments. He admired that “Her children are her top priority… It’s amazing to witness how she manages all these aspects of her life – her career, her personal identity as Halle Berry, and transforming into her ‘The Call’ character Roxanne – effortlessly, even though I know it isn’t easy.”
In the continuation of the interview, Berry makes it clear that while she is proud to be a mother, she does not wish for this aspect alone to define her entirely. Beyond being a mother, she underscores her identity as an artist and a woman pursuing her dreams.
She stated, “Being a mother is just one aspect of who I am, not my entire identity.” Expanding on this, she emphasized, “I remain an artist, a woman, and I have dreams beyond being a mom. It’s meaningful to me that they recognize these aspects of my personality. Before becoming a mother, I was already unique. I strive to preserve my individuality to prevent my life from becoming ‘I am only a mom.’ Motherhood is a significant part of me, but it’s not my entire existence.”
Besides discussing their roles, Berry and Wahlberg also touch upon the experience of portraying older characters. Wahlberg expresses his delight in taking on such roles as he advances in age. Moreover, he shares his desire to depict a grandparent character should the chance present itself.
He mentioned, “With age comes acceptance, especially in the role of being a dad. Many men, as well as actresses, may not be keen on portraying their actual age. I eagerly anticipate playing a grandfather. If fortune smiles upon me to continue receiving excellent roles, I am excited to explore other characters and grow old gracefully.”
Berry also revealed how taking on older roles has impacted her role as a mom. “It definitely altered me as a mother, yet it also linked me to the realization that I don’t fret about my children judging my actions. If something isn’t suitable for them to witness, then they won’t see it. I continue to pursue what I desire artistically. I want to impart on them the idea that you must chase your dreams, pursue your passions, and do what stirs your soul,” she added.
