‘He Had The Biggest Grin On His Face’: Michael Keaton Reveals Why He Liked His Batman Co-Star Jack Nicholson

As a devoted fan and follower of Michael Keaton‘s illustrious career, I can confidently say that his journey through Hollywood is nothing short of captivating. From playing the iconic role of Beetlejuice to donning the cape as Batman, Keaton has undeniably left an indelible mark on the film industry.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but reminisce about the iconic roles that Michael Keaton has brought to life in Hollywood. One of my all-time favorites is none other than the enigmatic Bruce Wayne, alias Batman, which he brilliantly portrayed in Tim Burton’s 1989 masterpiece alongside the legendary Jack Nicholson. Now, let me tell you a bit more about their incredible collaboration and enduring friendship!

In a recent interview with People magazine, Michael Keaton discussed his early career and revealed that he almost landed a role in the 1988 film “Beetlejuice” for an unexpected reason. During this candid conversation with the publication, Keaton also reminisced about his experience working alongside his Batman film co-star Jack Nicholson, who famously portrayed the character of Jack Napier, more commonly known as The Joker

During their time filming the superhero movie together, The Flash’s actor developed a strong connection with Mr. Nicholson and continues to maintain contact, expressing his fondness by saying, “I genuinely admire him.” Additionally, he mentioned that the star of The Two Jakes is known for his love of reading, making their conversations engaging, and noted that Nicholson is quite vocal in sharing his opinions during discussions

Keaton further mentioned that becoming friends with him had its perks, recalling an intriguing anecdote that the Hoffa actor took him to Paris in a jet, adding, “I was like a Boy Scout. I was ready to go out like a normal person.”

Actor Dan Aykroyd (of Jack Frost fame) shared with a media outlet that they both found themselves at the elite Les Bains Douches nightclub. At the club, Nicholson was in high spirits and sporting a broad smile. However, Aykroyd mentioned that upon his return to the hotel, he felt the entire evening had been somewhat “unfulfilling” for him

Michael Keaton mentioned his involvement in the Beetlejuice follow-up, having portrayed Betelgeuse in the first film. In an interview, he shared that he nearly declined the part, confessing his initial confusion about the character. However, it was the director who eventually convinced him to accept the role

Keaton expressed that Burton appeared unique to him, noting, “I simply found him appealing. I appreciated him as an individual. We clicked well, and he seemed like a fellow unconventional artist.”

Meanwhile, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will be released in theaters on September 6, 2024.
