HBO Renews ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ for a Second Season

HBO has ordered a second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and it’s expected to arrive in 2027.

HBO and HBO Max CEO Casey Bloys revealed the news at a press event in New York on Thursday. The first season of the show will now premiere on January 18th.

This show takes place before the events of Game of Thrones and is based on the Tales of Dunk and Egg stories by George R.R. Martin. It was originally scheduled to debut later in 2024, but will now premiere in January 2026.

The show’s release date has been changed to avoid being tied to the existing HBO-Sky agreement, and to coincide with the launch of HBO Max in the UK and Ireland.

This series, created by Ira Parker and George R.R. Martin, centers on the journeys of Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and his young companion, Aegon Targaryen (Egg). Peter Claffey stars as Dunk, and Dexter Sol Ansell plays Egg. Set generations before the events of Game of Thrones, the show delves into the history of the Targaryen family and the world of Westeros.

The cast also features Finn Bennett as Prince Aerion Targaryen, Bertie Carvel as Prince Baelor Targaryen, Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle, Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, and Sam Spruell as Prince Maekar Targaryen.

This new series will transport viewers back to the fascinating world created by George R.R. Martin, exploring the history of the Targaryen family and following the journey of a brave knight and his young apprentice.
