HBO is developing a live-action television series inspired by the graphic novel V for Vendetta, Variety reports. While the project is in its initial stages, writer Pete Jackson is confirmed to be developing the show.
Okay, so I’m really excited about this show! It’s being made by Warner Bros. Television, and the folks at DC Studios – James Gunn and Peter Safran – are heavily involved as executive producers. They’ve also brought in some great people to help out – Ben Stephenson from Poison Pen and Leanne Klein from Wall to Wall Media, which is part of the Warner Bros. family over in the UK. It sounds like a solid team behind the scenes, which always makes me feel better about a new series!
Alan Moore and David Lloyd created the original V for Vendetta as a comic book in the early 1980s. It first appeared in the British magazine Warrior, and later DC Comics published it in 1988.
This story is set in a bleak, future Britain under the control of a strict and oppressive government. It centers on a masked rebel known as V, who battles the dictatorship with the aid of Evey Hammond, a woman he rescues from the authorities.
If the show is greenlit, it will be another live-action DC series on HBO, adding to a collection that’s already gaining momentum. The network has seen positive results with shows like The Penguin, a spin-off of Matt Reeves’ The Batman, featuring Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti.
I’m so excited to hear that V for Vendetta is coming back to theaters! It’s already been adapted once, and the 2005 movie was amazing – Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman were perfect as V and Evey. It did really well, earning over $130 million around the world, so it’s awesome that Warner Bros. is giving it another release in November 2026 for the 20th anniversary. I can’t wait to see it on the big screen again!
