Hayley Atwell to Return as Peggy Carter in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY

As a long-time Marvel enthusiast and avid fan of Hayley Atwell’s portrayal of Agent Peggy Carter, I can hardly contain my excitement over this latest development! From her debut in “Captain America: The First Avenger” to her heartwarming cameo in “Avengers: Endgame,” Atwell has breathed life into a character who stands tall among the MCU’s most iconic figures.

In the lineup for the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday” is an acquainted figure from the MCU’s history – Hayley Atwell reprising her role as Agent Peggy Carter! This news certainly adds excitement to the mix. As reported by Deadline, it seems that Chris Evans, aka Captain America, will also be part of the cast, which raises the question: will Atwell’s Peggy be from the same timeline as before, where she established S.H.I.E.L.D. and lived a long life? Or could she be a variant of the character, like Captain Carter – the one who received the super soldier serum? Given the nature of the multiverse in the MCU, it’s hard to tell, but we’re leaning towards the latter option.

In the mind-bending Disney+ animated series “What If…?”, Marvel unveiled a fresh take on superheroes, introducing Captain Carter. In the episode titled “What If Captain Carter Were the First Avenger?”, we’re introduced to an extraordinary version of Peggy – not the one I’m used to! In this alternate reality, Steve Rogers didn’t get the super soldier serum and instead piloted Howard Stark’s Hydra Stomper. Could Hayley Atwell (and Chris Evans) be gearing up to play live-action versions of these unique spins on their iconic characters? Given the multiverse is now a factor, it sure seems plausible! We’ve already seen another Captain Carter in live-action, but unfortunately for her, the Scarlet Witch took her life in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”.

Initially, Hayley Atwell portrayed Peggy Carter in a substantial part of “Captain America: The First Avenger.” She subsequently made brief appearances as an older Peggy in both “The Winter Soldier” and the opening scene of “Ant-Man.” Following a favorable response to a Marvel One-Shot short film, Atwell starred in a two-season series titled “Agent Carter,” which was set post-World War II. Most recently, she made a reappearance as Peggy in a cameo during “Avengers: Endgame,” where she and Steve Rogers finally experienced their fairytale ending. Given her exceptional performance as the character and her esteemed status within the Marvel universe, fans are undoubtedly excited at the prospect of seeing more of Atwell’s portrayal of Peggy Carter.
