As a devoted fan of Today with Hoda & Jenna, I couldn’t help but be thrilled when I witnessed Jenna Bush Hager‘s playful prank call to her beloved co-host Hoda Kotb during their live broadcast on July 25th. Their friendship and camaraderie have always been a highlight of the show, and this prank call took their bond to another level.

On July 25th, while broadcasting Together with Hoda & Jenna, Jenna Bush Hager attempted a playful trick on Hoda Kotb during her live reporting from Paris for the Olympics coverage. The entertaining phone call between them unfolded right before the audience’s eyes. As Hager shared, this prank was a friendship challenge, and she passed it with flying colors.

On the episode of “Today with Hoda & Jenna” that aired on July 25th, I playfully engaged my colleague Hoda Kotb during our live show. While I currently co-host with Donna Farizan, Hoda was in Paris and answered her phone call right there.

After watching Billie Eilish’s amusing prank calls to celebrities during her recent interview, I was inspired to try out this playful trick myself. In an Elle magazine segment, the “Birds of a Feather” singer made hilarious prank phone calls to Margot Robbie, Dakota Johnson, and Tyler, The Creator, resulting in unexpected and humorous reactions from her famous friends. Inspired by Billie’s antics, I attempted to pull off a similar prank on my co-host Hoda, who is currently gearing up for the 2024 Olympics in Paris. And just like Billie’s famous pals, Hoda got the joke and played along.

When Hager tried for the first time, she received a busy signal. It wasn’t until her second attempt that Kotb answered. She then inquired about Hager’s actions.

Hoda Kotb’s response to Jenna Bush Hager’s prank call

As an obsessed fan, I couldn’t believe my ears when Hoda answered the call and I heard her ask “What in the world is going on?” Instead of giving me the expected update on the show, Jenna continued with a prank. She broke the news that Donna was gone, leaving no co-host to join her on air. Jenna seriously declared, “I’ve got some grim news, and I mean it. Donna had to leave; there’s no one here to co-host with me. Can we hop on a FaceTime call instead?”

As an obsessed fan, I’d jump at the chance to answer Hoda’s call as soon as I saw her name flash across my screen. “Hold on, Hoda! I’ll be right there,” I’d exclaim, eagerly hitting the “answer” button before she had a chance to finish her urgent request.

Hager unexpectedly asked Kotb for help in an urgent manner, but Kotb seemed puzzled and hesitated before responding. However, just as Kotb was about to comply, Hager interrupted once more, confessing that she had been deceiving him all along. Later on, during a FaceTime call, Farizan joined the conversation, and Hager revealed that the entire incident was actually a test of Kotb’s loyalty – one that he had successfully passed. She emphasized the significant commitment required of Kotb when filling in for her own show.

Hoda Kotb’s summer adventure in France has been filled with fascinating experiences and notable landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and encounters with famous athletes. Towards the end of their conversation, Jenna playfully revealed that her previous statement was a joke. However, she expressed her admiration for Hoda’s content and added that Hoda’s ability to cover her own show was impressive.

On July 25th, Hoda Kotb posted an Instagram photo of a wall in her home featuring two clocks showing New York and Paris time. This setup enables her daughters to stay connected with her while she’s in Paris for the Olympics 2024 coverage.
