Oh, boy! As a long-time fan of Hatsune Miku and Project Sekai, this news has me absolutely thrilled! I can still remember the first time I heard her voice echoing through my headphones, and it feels like coming full circle to see her getting a movie adaptation. The thought of witnessing Miku’s adventures on the big screen is almost too much for my heart to handle!
Project Sekai Colorful Stage’s official platform (previously recognized as Twitter) and website have officially announced the upcoming film adaptation of the project, revealing a fresh teaser and visual. The movie titled COLORFUL STAGE!: A Miku Who Can’t Sing is set to debut in Japan on January 17, 2025, with a worldwide release to follow shortly after.
In the preview, Hatsune Miku is joined by key characters from the game, setting the stage for a movie inspired by Project Sekai Colorful Stage! Featuring Hatsune Miku, a rhythm and adventure game. The teaser shows Miku in a fresh ensemble against what looks like the Shibuya backdrop. She appears to be a hologram that has malfunctioned or experienced a glitch.
At Studio P.A. Works, Hiroyuki Hata will take on the director’s role for the upcoming film production. The script will be penned by Yoko Yonaiyama, while Yuki Akiyama will design the characters. Saki Fujita lends her voice to Hatsune Miku, with Asami Shimoda providing voices for both Kagamine Rin and Kagamine Len. The roles of Megurine Luka and MEIKO will be played by Yu Asakawa and Meiko Haigo, respectively.
In addition to unveiling the trailer and artwork, the team also shared the plotline for COLORFUL STAGE! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing. This movie will be developed from an original story that hasn’t been part of the game before. It will introduce a fresh Hatsune Miku character, who interacts with characters from Project Sekai and grows alongside them throughout the storyline.
The narrative proceeds by focusing on Ichika Hoshino, who listens to a song from an unfamiliar artist named Miku at a music store. Prior encounters with this artist or seeing her on television are absent in her history. As she mentions Miku’s name, the artist looks directly at her, only to mysteriously vanish. Later, Ichika encounters Miku on her smartphone, where she expresses her desire to expand her reach and share her voice with a wider audience.
Stunned by Ichika’s street act, Miku feels there’s much more to learn from her. As a result, they decide to team up as friends and their adventure unfolds. With numerous new anime releases scheduled for 2025, it promises to be intriguing to see what lies ahead. Keep an eye out for the latest news on COLORFUL STAGE! The Movie: A Miku Unable to Sing!
