The movie follows Winifred Notty, a seemingly kind governess who educates the children on manners and family background. However, beneath this polite facade hides a sinister, psychopathic nature. As Notty settles into her role, the estate staff grow suspicious of her true intentions, as they begin mysteriously disappearing one by one.
1858 finds an unconventional governess named Winifred Notty arriving at the secluded gothic mansion, Ensor House. As Winifred settles in, strange occurrences begin to unfold – employees mysteriously vanish, and the homeowners ponder if there’s something unusual about their new governess.
As reported by Deadline, the film is helmed by director Zachary Wigon and penned by novelist Virginia Feito, who wrote the script based on her own book. In this production, Isaacs assumes the role of Mr. Pounds, a mysterious figure who owns the secluded gothic mansion known as Ensor House.
The project will begin production in August, following an extended development phase. Anton is single-handedly funding the entire venture and managing the U.S. distribution rights as well.
In a delightful expression of praise, Wigon, our director, commended Isaac’s performance for its intricate nuances, describing his ability to bring “extreme care and accuracy” to the intricacies of human behavior. Wigon was overjoyed to have Isaac take on the role of the unpredictable Mr. Pounds.

Besides his latest role on HBO’s hit show The White Lotus (season 3), Jason Isaacs is widely recognized from his appearances in the Harry Potter movie franchise, Star Trek: Discovery, and other notable projects.
