After giving birth to her daughters Delilah and Amelia, Lisa Rinna struggled deeply with postpartum depression. On the podcast “Let’s Not Talk About the Husband”, Lisa Rinna and Harry Hamlin shared openly about the most challenging period in their marriage.
61-year-old former cast member from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills shared that she experienced a prolonged period of living under a heavy, gloomy shadow, with feelings of despair lasting approximately 15 months following the birth of her first child. This depression intensified significantly after the arrival of her second daughter. At this point, her husband, actor Harry Hamlin (73), expressed concern as things seemed to take a troubling turn.
Hamlin stated that his wife had warned him she would harm him and instructed him to keep the knives out of reach. In other words, he claimed she said, “I’m going to hurt you,” and added, “Put the knives in the drawer.” To which he responded, “You need to contact your OB-GYN immediately.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to share an insight from my personal experience: Although I can’t remember issuing any threats, I can confirm that the intensity of symptoms I experienced was genuinely chilling. I was confronted with terrifying hallucinations, such as vivid and distressing visions of myself harming others. This led me to make a conscious decision to remove all sharp objects, like knives, from my living space for safety reasons. Additionally, I had harrowing visions of driving into a solid brick wall, which further emphasized the gravity of these hallucinations. It’s crucial to address such experiences and seek professional help when needed.
Rinna made it clear that her harmful thoughts never involved her children; she’s never envisioned harming them in any manner whatsoever, be it physically, emotionally, or otherwise.
As a lifestyle guide, I’d like to shed light on a challenging phase some women encounter after childbirth – postpartum depression. This condition can lead to feelings of deep sadness, intense irritability, dramatic mood swings, and, in severe instances, hallucinations or thoughts that are harmful, not just to themselves but also to their newborns. It’s essential to remember that help is available, and understanding this condition is the first step towards recovery.
Reflecting on that period, Rinna characterized her mental condition as being “entirely out of balance.” Later, she chose to seek assistance and was given antidepressants. These drugs proved beneficial for the actress, helping her regain a stable mental state.
Currently, Rinna is utilizing her platform to inspire other women to seek assistance and express themselves openly. She urges new mothers to avoid enduring their struggles silently.
Rinna has appeared in the daytime soap opera “Days of Our Lives” and the TV drama “Melrose Place”. From 2014 to 2022, she was a main cast member on Bravo’s reality show “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.” On the other hand, Hamlin is primarily recognized for his roles in “Clash of the Titans”, “Mad Men”, and “L.A. Law”.
